We can not only recommend this tour, we would say that this is an experience and a must do!
Every person that joins this tour, is supporting the project "Secure house" and others, with the money that you pay for the tour. Every single cent will go where the peole need it. There ist no better way to help AND lern about life in a township. Ella and Penny and all the kids and twens made us feel welcome and comfortable. If you are interested in what a township is about (the people that live there), you need to contact Penny and let her show and explain to you. Yoou will have a fun time and will return to your hotel/lodge with a big smile on your face. And make sure to have some candy in your pocket ;-)

This tour is well worth the expense. We were able to see and experience another side of South Africa, one that we would have completely missed if we were touring just the usual attractions. The guides Ella and Penny were very personable and willing to answer all questions. Highly recommended!

The township tour with Ella and Penny will be a real life-changing experience for all interested travellers. Don't miss out the opportunity to book this tour with Emzini. What is very special about the operators: they use a big percentage of the money to help the people in the township. Apart from operating the tours, they also care for the children and abused women in facilities like the safe house and the soup kitchen. Both ladies are very kind and will always answer any questions. After the tour you will get pictures which they had taken during your township encounters and send them to you - for free! This township tour was on of the greatest experiences we had in South Africa and it provided us was a lasting impressions of the culture and living conditions of people living in Townships.

Penny and Ella are two inspirational local ladies who combine these excellent, informative and moving tours with work to improve the lot of fellow members of their community. We were particularly charmed by the kids from difficult backgrounds that they’ve taken in, and it was great to meet people from the township from across Africa who were doing their best to fashion lives in challenging circumstances. Ella’s hospitality, in her own home, was warm and genuine, though our attempts to learn a few Khosa phrases fell lamentably short! Our drumming to accompany the South African national anthem was a bit better, though. This is a tour not to be missed. Just great.
