Jaynie and Gordon are fantastic hosts. They manage perfectly to combine attention to detail and a relaxed attitude (not that easy!). They have an infectious enthusiasm for Knysna and more widely South Africa, which they are willing to share if asked. Since they have been in Knysna for a while they know what's going on, and were able to give us excellent recommendations for things to do and places to visit. The suite we had was perfect for a small family, and the children really enjoyed exploring the gardens, even swimming in the pool in the middle of the winter! We would recommend them, and this wonderful place to stay, without hesitation.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at Bamboo Guesthouse in July 2009. Originally we booked for two nights, but extended because we truely enjoyed the property, the hosts (Jaynie and Gordon), and the Knysna area. Despite being just minutes outside of town (near The Heads and the golf communities), while inisde Bamboo, you feel like you could be 1000 km away on SAFARI. It helps set the mood that Jaynie and Gordon are a very WORLDLY pair who have serious roots throughout southern Africa and knowledge beyond. They are among the most warm and ENGAGING hosts we have ever met; they are obviously serious about their business, but maintain a very casual, LAID-BACK environment throughout. The setting and property landscaping has been discussed by others and is evident from their website. The rooms (we got to tour/see several of them at changeover) are simply-but-tastefully appointed, clean, with modern fixtures (newer showers & furniture, small flatscreen TVs, iPod-docking radios, etc) and regional art. They recently acquired the neighboring property and were expanding with several new rooms, a larger breakfast room and deck, etc. They were also converting their former personal suite into a "honeymoon" room perched at tree-top level with a nice private deck - get this room if you have a group! Ask for a room toward the "center" of the property if you like mixing (or watching), or one of the 3 that are "away" from the center for a great sense of privacy. We didn't use the pool, as it was winter (still quite nice), but it looks nice, and our nightly fires in the main house made up for it! Only HEADS-UP on our otherwise FLAWLESS review: if you expect to pay with credit card, there's a hitch - you will need to go to a local bank to make the payment, which the bank told us would be treated as a cash withdrawal on your credit account (big fees). Better to bring enough Rand - it's worth it!!

I think that 'fabulous' is probably the best way to sum up Bamboo in Knysna. My husband and I spent a blissful three days here in April and our only regret was that we didn't have time to stay longer.

The rooms are like a home from home, tucked away in the gardens and linked by wooden walkways to the pool and boma, where delicious breakfasts are served up in the morning. Jaynie and Gordon were the perfect hosts and full of great tips about what to see and where to eat. As well as running Bamboo they also have a farm where they stable rescue horses and if you are into riding then definitely speak to Gordon about a visit. The rides through the forest are so peaceful and it's great to see these horses nursed back to full health. They have big plans for both extending Bamboo and the farm, we wish them all the very best and can't wait to go back and visit again.

I found this venue on the SA venues website and am very pleased they are on trip advisor! :)
I booked a one night stay (no where near long enough) at the guesthouse whilst in Knysna as a part of our honeymoon trip in south africa. We were travelling for three weeks, so got the opportunity to stay in a number of places.
What stood Bamboo out from the rest was the familiarity and welcoming attitude of Jaynie and Gordon. It really felt as though we were staying with friends.
The venue is so quirky and pretty, with the huts set at the end of paths around the gardens and masses of trees and bushes making each one solitary.
Breakfast was totally delicious and coffee was constant and fresh (the way to my heart).
I would HIGHLY recommend taking advantage of the horse trekking Jaynie and Gordon offer and the boat trip (unfortunately we didn't have time for the boat trip but if it is anything like the generous trek we went on i know we would have had an amazing time).
We will definately be visiting Bamboo the guesthouse again.

After a long drive on the scenic route from Stellenbosch, arriving at Bamboo guesthouse was like heaven for the weary travellers. The room was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. Breakfast in the boma near the pool was fantastic, the scrambled eggs that Gordon whips up are not to be missed especially combined with the chilli sauces he has. Jaynie had some great tips for place for lunch and dinner and the must see attractions of the area. Unfortunately the short stay and weather prevented us from having an evening cruise on the Lagoon with our hosts, but we will be back!
