Description: We are ile de pain 2.0, a team of authentic artisans and devoted individuals; foodies, fundis, artists, professionals and dreamers, all waiting to welcome you to our magical cafe. We are committed to honest food and superlative service, upholding heritage and embracing evolution, supporting traditional farmers and local suppliers, developing people and creating community. Our cafe dishes offer a superlative level of honest sophistication in flavour and creative visual presentation. Each dish is lovingly and mindfully prepared using simple, fresh and beautiful ingredients that we hand select. We bake bread - good, honest bread that tastes the way it ought to. Our patisserie creates rustic yet refined desserts that offer a balance of delicate and decadent. We cultivate relationships with valued local growers who produce in small quantities and are entirely devoted to their land and craft. ile de pain is a place to gather, making friends of strangers. We find our guests respond to the energy of the cafe, and in turn fill it with life, adding to the unique experience that it is. Our new light and airy, open-plan layout encourages patrons to witness our team at work and understand the way in which we lovingly prepare “real” food.

Wow! Great little breakfast spot in Knysna - with lovely cappuccino, pastries and different but delicious breakfasts. We will definitely be back!

“Authenticity and passion”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

This is a restaurant with immense depth! Not only in the experience of the ever-present owners master baker Markus and star chef Liezie, but more importantly, in the authenticity and passion they serve food with. You are likely to get a history lesson with your food that will surprise you just as much as the combinations of subtle flavours made from simple, fresh ingredients. The ambiance bursts with an intriguing and contradicting mix of rustique and sophistication. These are presented through the huge, visible wood fired, stone oven, swarmed with busy, silent bakers producing bold, properly baked loafs of bread on the one hand, and delicate pastries and food flavours on the other hand. This is more than just a café and bakery. It’s an experience that you dare not miss on your trips through this beautiful town on the Garden route. It’s so good it makes you crazy…

“Breakfast with style”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Never been disappointed after frequent visits to this restaurant. Best coffee in town and delicious food prepared extremely well. Rustic appearance. After breakfast you can purchase from a good selection of take away pastries and bread.

“Nice place for lunch.”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

Very busy place especially around lunch-time but I like the atmosphere and our lunch was simple but superb. Waiters are a bit hectic and not very personal, I must agree with earlier reviewers...
