“Spice up your relationship.”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

We dined at Firefly on a lovely summer's evening on our way home from George airport. The restaurant has a fabulous location in an old converted house, painted bright red and situated on the edge of the Knysna estuary. You can sit both inside or out.The tables are beautifully laid with damask tablecloths and heavy silver cutlery. The waitress was knowledgable and brought us 2 tiny cups of spiced tea,an amuse bouche and steaming hot handtowels to start. There is a variety of daily specials.
We started with 2 cocktails that were both made with fresh berries and herbs. They were absolutely mouth watering. We did not have starters, but the springrolls looked very appetizing. The service is professional and not at all intrusive.I chose a prawn curry and my husband had a beef curry. Both dishes were beautifully presented and both flavourful and fragrant.I do not like very hot food and this was absolutely spot on for me.It was more about the combination of flavours than about the degree of heat.
This is a sophisticated restaurant for a night out with friends or as a couple. Not recommended for children. The owner is very knowledgeble and friendly.definitely worth a visit if you are in Knysna for a weekend or holiday.

“Not a good experience”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

We were met outside by a waiter who showed us a ,shop, selling leaf teas, spice mixes and tee shirts before we entered the restaurant. The atmosphere was dull and depressing, very dark inside. There were flies around the table while we ate and we were unimpressed by both the food and the general presentation.
We had heard varying comments previous to our visit but this was the worst dining experience we had in 6 weeks !

“Different and delicious”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

If you like unusual spicy food then this is a must. You can choose from mild to very hot according to taste. A unique experience, with very different food combinations.

“not producing the goods...”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

We went here quite a while ago with some friends, but the evening became memorable for the wrong reasons. The owner lady was really quite unfriendly and surly by now a successful restaurant should be getting credit card facilities...but the lack of this might just reflect their general in-flexibility. The menu might be in need of some up-dating.
