This delightful bistro never seizes to amaze me with their variety of delicious dishes - each one presented beautifully with mouthwatering cuts of beef filet, succulent lamb chops, chicken and fresh fish from the sea. The bobotie starter is a must have so is the Fish soup. Would love to dine there every night to try every single dish on the menu presented on a standing blackboard. Freshness guaranteed with every single item on the menu. Hostess and owner Ellen makes sure her guests are happy and satisfied -OH! don't forget to try the chocolate cake - the best this side of the border.
A must visit for everyone make sure to book your table in advance - you might not be so lucky when you just pitch up at the door - (situated in the main road of Knysna), as this little restaurant is always fully booked. Guaranteed exceptional dining in relaxed atmosphere.

We tend to look to TripAdvisor when researching places to eat as one of the reliable sources of information. Sometimes it can let one down but, on the whole, it is a good place to start. Obviously, one has to read between the lines of some of the most effusive and some of the dreadful reviews. My wife had spotted this on the site but just stored it in the memory banks when we happened to pass by one afternoon when exploring Knysna on foot. We popped in and made a booking for that evening. And I can echo other reviewers' comments about the ambience and the quality of the food. The blackboard menu is an eccentric idea delivered with panache by the lady who we guess to be the owner - she certainly has her finger on the button.

Worth a stop if you are travelling the Garden Route.

Ate here unfortunately only on one night but would definitely visit again when next in Knysna.

Warm and friendly greeting from the owner, cosy atmosphere and good choice of meals from the blackboard menu that appears to be updated daily. A good number of dishes were cooked in the wood fired oven (which I think added greatly to the flavour to the food).

We had the barbooti and a chicken and prawn curry that was of medium heat. Good wine selection and good service.

Don't believe that you could really go that wrong eating here

My parents and I spent 10 days, driving through the Garden Route and spent the most time in Knysna. On the recommendation of our hosts from Villa Afrikana, we made our way to The Olive Tree.

First impressions of the restaurant - cozy, warm and very very likable. There are books and an open oven which is the busiest part of the restaurant. A small and well trained staff. The wines that were recommended were top draw.

What really stood out is the lady who runs the show! She's personal and literally walked over to us with the menu (on a huge blackboard!!).

We had a very memorable experience - the food was fabulous. We ordered lamb chops, risotto, the chicken. All of which were excellent. We also ordered the cheesecake with was VERY fresh. Ah, and the starters were a big hit too! The Boboti springrolls!

If you're in Knysna, this is a MUST.
