Mosselberg guesthouse was a great surprise as the rooms are enormous and the property is just a short distance from Grotto Beach. Staff were helpful and their newly started chef did an excellent job in the evening if you required dinner. The 'best' room sits on top of the breakfast/restaurant and has panoramic views over the beach. The weather had broken over the 2 nights that we stayed but found the guest house really relaxing and lovely to mooch around or go for short walks on the beach.

Room Tip: The 'best' room sits on top of the breakfast/restaurant and has panoramic views over the beach.

This was my second visit to Mosselberg Guesthouse and I was once again suitably impressed by the beauty of the space, the location, the sublime views, the decor and the atmosphere of peace and serenity. My first impression was "wow look at that view!" So I believe the architects executed the vision perfectly. Great care was taken to consider the Fynbos which makes up the garden with a winding path down to Grotto beach, a second tick in my books. All the entertainment areas open up with huge sliding doors onto a large deck so one really has a feeling of being close to nature. The high ceilings add to the feeling of space, the uncluttered decor and the beautiful art is all very tasteful.

Of course there's always a downside, not serious but annoying, there's only one guest lavatory downstairs, so the 140 odd guests had to either queue up, use guest's bathrooms or fall off the deck and do it in a bush, unsavoury, I wondered wether this would pass health and safety laws abroad or how SA tourism graded the establishment? Second niggle: most ladies wore heels on the night, most heels got stuck between the deckings, not so great if you're mooching up to your beau and your leg got stuck in mid pirrouette, and then to add insult to injury, leaving our gorgeous stilletto's ruined. I overheard a guest (master builder by profession) comment on the lack of railings around the deck too, aesthetically pleasing, but not so safe or child friendly, Public liability springs to mind.

The management and staff were professional, friendly, well trained and discreet.

After all said and done I'd happily recommend this guesthouse any day of the week.

Room Tip: Book a room with a view.

We arrived at this small private hotel to be greeted warmly, and shown to our room... And what a room! The panoramic doors folded right back to give a wall to wall opening... with unobstructed views (and sound) of the waves breaking on the shore, some 300 meters away.

Definitely washes the senses clean and restores the human mind and body into one again...

Breakfasts were an absolute treat with the resident cook preparing your cooked food to order. Outstanding service - highly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Sunbird room and would definitely go back there again

This 5 bedroomed house is located in the beautiful residential area of Voelklip, which is about 10 mins drive from the quaint centre of Hermanus; or around £15 for a return taxi, if like us you want to enjoy the local wines.

Finding it by Sat Nav was a little confusing, as we were searching on 10th Avenue, not the adjoining 10th Street. Take note.

We rung the bell and on entry immediately got the Wow factor, what a fabulous place. The architect has designed this uber modern house to maximise outdoor living, a concept that just worked.

Our room was really spacious with large comfortable bed, sofa, minibar, safe, gowns, coffee making, TV and DVD player and large bi-folding doors which took full advantage of the sea views. Full free WiFi throughout.

The house itself comprised a central courtyard with small pool, lawn and decking with sun lounges. The pool water feature providing a soothing background noise. A rear decking overlooking the sea was also available to catch the late sun.

We had the house to ourselves during the day, which was great, chilling out with a cold beer and a book.

We ate in on our first night. The tables were set with full linen and the freshly prepared food and wine delicious. A pool table and a few games provided the after dinner entertainment.

For an early evening beer, there is a beachside bar in walking distance plus a great coffee shop / Deli on the same street called Daily Bread, so not too isolated.

The hotel provides an escape into peace and tranquility, yet is 10 mins drive from a busy town. The weekly local market is worth a visit, a great community spirit with lots of food, music and home made produce.

I highly recommend the hotel, 5 stars all the way.
