Just spent the weekend at this fantastic guest house. Generally i have not been a big fan of B&B or guest houses. if they were all like this however, i wouldn't stay anywhere else. Great location for restaurants and all the coal attractions, chic and stylish decor, 5 star cleanliness and service. Attention to detail right down to great beds, quality linen, and large bathrooms. The staff were friendly, professional and very attentive without being intrusive. Special thank you to Manager Hazel for making our short stay so memorable and all your warmth and attention to our six year old daughter. Great for families and couples alike. Breakfast was fantastic too and easily comparable to any of the Ritz's we have stayed at round the world. A totally relaxing and pampered weekend. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Hermanus after this.

Thanks and we'll be back soon!

Room Tip: rear room is huge, has its own Jacuzzi and still a side view of the mountains and Ocean.

Thank you so much for your very good review. We do try our very best to deliver more than would normally be expected. Thank you for the positive comments about the location of the guest house, the 5 star standard, the decor and the service. Thanks especially for the mention of our manager Hazel and we are so glad she could make your daughter's birthday special. Your comparison of our breakfasts to the Ritz was really the cherry on the top. We cannot wait to have your family back.

Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast and beautiful ocean front view. Clean and spaceous rooms. Good and free WiFi internet access in all rooms. Parking at the front door.
The locking system of the front gate and the rooms is a bit clumsy, you get a whole bunch of keys, for every door another one.

Thank you very much for your good review. We are pleased you found the staff friendly and enjoyed the breakfasts, the ocean view, the spacious rooms and the free WiFi. With regard to the keys, we only have two on the bunch as a rule, one for the front door and one for the guest's room, but have recently added one small yale key for the gate to the bunch, along with the remote, as we have started to experience power outages due to load shedding by the electricity provider in South Africa. We have done this so that our guests are able to gain easy access to the house in the event of a power outage. Once the load shedding is over, we will be able to remove the additional key.

Immediately after entering our room ("Fynbos Suite") we noticed a strong smell from our bathroom. According to the manageress a problem in the septic tank in connection with high ambient temperatures was the reason for this. She promised to send a plumber to fix everything. Obviously the plumber used a lot of chemicals and in deed the smell disappeared for a few days. Thereafter: same, same.
We then were offered a different room which had no direct seaview but looked directly onto the parking lot and the rather busy Westcliff Road. So we declined this offer. Next step: more chemicals...
Some other things also did not fit into the "5-Star-Picture".
The surface on which both washbasins were fixed consisted of a fluid-absorbing instead of a fluid-repellent material. One can imagine that this is not the most hygienic solution.
The chairs on our balcony were absolutely rotten. No way to sit there and enjoy the fabulous scenery.
All in all this guesthouse does not deserve five stars.

We are disappointed that your review is not entirely factual. We acknowledge that we experienced a plumbing problem in the Fynbos room on the day of your arrival and that the plumber was called to fix it. We also acknowledge that the problem resurfaced a few days later, which again required us to call on the plumber. However, at that time you were offered a free upgrade into our Executive Suite, not a room, which has a larger bedroom, bathroom and dressing room ensuite, with a private lounge and private courtyard with Jacuzzi. This suite faces our main pool courtyard, with double doors leading from the private lounge onto that courtyard and double doors leading from the first floor bedroom onto a balcony with a partial sea view and mountain views.Only the back of the suite faces the carpark and road. The daily rate for the suite is R 3 390, while the rate for the Fynbos room is R 2 190. We believed it was a generous offer and when you declined it, you omit to say in your review that we offered to relocate you to another guest house at no cost, but you declined this offer too and elected to stay in the Fynbos room for the full 7 day stay. We are of course sorry and apologise that we experienced plumbing problems during your stay, but believe we did everything possible to remedy the situation and offer you a solution. We are pleased to report that an imported part for the shower trap was procured and the problem is now completely fixed.
We must also deny the statement you make in your review that the slab on which the basins are mounted is not waterproofed. It is a concrete slab and it has been waterproofed. Also, the statement about the chairs on the balcony leading out from the Fynbos room, being rotten, is not factual, as the chairs are made of wrought iron and cannot rot. The powdercoated finish is called dark rust and intended to look old, to match the provencale design and decor of the house. Furthermore, the chairs on the sea side patio, outside the main lounge are made of the highest quality Indonesian kiln dried teak, and can also not rot, but the wood is intended to weather outdoors to match the decor of the house. Teak is one of the most expensive woods available and the most appropriate for outdoor use. Neither of these last two complaints were brought to the manager's attention during your 7 day stay or she would have explained the finishes to you. We are thankful for your compliments to the manager about the quality of the breakfasts during the 7 day stay. Finally, I personally sent you an email on 18 February, the day of your departure, to apologise for the plumbing problem and to confirm that you had declined both the free upgrade and the relocation, but to date have had no response to that mail. I feel we could not have done more than we did to resolve the problem.

Fabulous location for a short 2 night stay. Clean and spacious room (Fynbos suite) with an incredible view of the ocean. Hotel manager, Hazel, had taken the initiative to book the harbour house restaurant and bs steakhouse for our evening meals, both of which proved to be great recommendations. My only slight niggles, the pool was to small (and cold) to swim in, and due to the volume of requests at breakfast (3 tables), some things we asked for never arrived! However, all in all, would certainly return and recommend!

Thank you for the review. we are very glad you liked the location, the beautiful sea views, the room and the Manager's service. Thank you for bringing to our attention that the breakfast service needs improvement. We have immediately assigned an extra staff member to assist with breakfast orders. With regard to the swimming pool, the dimensions are 7m long x 5m wide at the widest part, which is as big as the property would allow. We hope guests are still able to enjoy a swim. We do not heat the main swimming pool, but there is a suite with a heated Jacuzzi and another suite with a private plunge pool. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your return and thank you for recommending us.

My husband and I spent part of our belated honeymoon in this beautiful B&B. Our room overlooked fabulous views of the ocean and was complete with local wildlife (seabirds, tortoises and dassies). The B&B was found to be incredibly clean, spacious and well-appointed with everything we needed. The manageress’s looked after us impeccably, booking us the best tables in local restaurants, and going above and beyond our expectations. It was hotter than average when we stayed however and air conditioning would have been gratefully received to help make sleeping more comfortable. Perfectly located just 20 minutes’ walk from the centre of Hermanus and a 10 minute drive from the vineyards of the Hemel-en-Aarde valley, I would recommend a stay in Auberge Provence.

Thanks you so much for your review. We love that you enjoyed the fabulous views and the proximity to the local wildlife, while on your belated honeymoon. Thank you for the positive comments about the guest house and about the attentive service from Hazel, our manager. We strive to keep our standards up and most importantly to go above and beyond what a guest would expect in terms of service, so it is very pleasing to hear we are doing our job.
In terms of the unexpected heat wave, we are aware that weather conditions are changing. In previous years we found that closing all the shutters and opening all the doors and windows, allowed pleasant sea breezes in to cool the rooms, but this season it has become apparent that we will need extra cooling, so we are in the process of looking into what will be best. Thank you for bringing it to our attention and really hope we will be able to welcome you back in the not too distant future.
