“only if on a tight budget”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2008

We were supposed to be staying for 2 nights but only stayed 1 as really did not like this hotel at all. We had a family suite - overlooking someones back yard and straight into there house. Children not allowed to breakfast before 9.30 as they may make a noise and wake people up as breakfast not only taken in reception but also has bedrooms directly off. The bar is awful - an old cupboard with miniatures, which works on an honesty basis, no children allowed, but nowhere else to sit and go other than your bedroom. Our room was cold and felt damp. The roof top restaturant is tiny. The jacuzzi is also on the roof top, away from the front pool area. This is definately not a 4 star. If you are a couple on a budget with no cihldren , than hotel is fine, if you are a family or looking for something nice dont stay here.

At Misty Waves we try to be as accommodative as possible. Our staff & personnel gets complimented by 99.9 % of visitors as being the best! (Proof of which are also on our in-house guest book and our website)
(They are not mere employees but love the job... it is a family concern. On most occasions guests are received at their car on arrival. We want them here, we love to have them here, we put a rose, orchid or other on their bed at night time, we wash their cars sometimes not even on request! And what’s more we want to pamper them in luxury)

There are like I believe all over the world, different categories of rooms - In this case from full sea sea view to slight and even non sea facing depending on the rate the guest want to pay and of course on availability.
Misty Waves (a very well deserved 4 start rating- as by the grading assessor a top bracket four star) is well known for its luxury and tranquillity and therefore we DO keep the option of allowing children to a minimum. We only have 3 family units – which again vary in status. We have even changed the age group for children allowed - not younger than 8 years – all in the interest of our guests. (We love children but we love our guests even more)

Our restaurant WAS small, cosy and romantic but on demand the capacity was increased. The new Waves Restaurant with sea views on the whales playing in front of the hotel can accommodate now 70 visitors! Beautiful setting! (Our popular buffet Breakfasts also served here!)

The Jacuzzi was at no stage linked to the pool area. It was not our intention – it should be quite and private.

We are truly sorry that this guest had this unfortunate experience at Misty Waves and would love to welcome them back – we are sure they will change their minds as our guests do love Misty.

The hotel has since undergone lovely additions such as the new pool area, an impressive formal lounge area, Reading Lounge and Safari Lounge & Bar. Soon the new Cigar Lounge and Additional few Executive suites with huge spa baths will be available.

Regards

Maxie Lerm

As part of our honeymoon, we stayed in the Misty Waves hotel for 2 nights and were highly disappointed with hotel. The room had no views at all, unless you consider looking out on the backyard a view. The breakfast room is in fact the reception area, so you will have your breakfast amongst guests checking in and out. The room size was fine, large and spacious room, howerver the layout of the room suggested that 2 or more rooms were joined to create a large setting.
There was nothing major wrong with the hotel its the little things that make the difference, like a shower door not closing properly, loose door handles and the like.
The restaurant is fine, although nothing spectacular. When we pointed out the issues the receptionist walked away, without comment. Stay somewhere else, there is plenty of choice in Hermanus and surrounding areas.

The television set was not working and we had a scrolling screen. The room wasn't serviced when we came back at 13h00 (after leaving at 09h30 the morning). The cushions on the balcony chairs got wet from rain and were removed but not replaced. After the room was serviced they did not replace the facecloth. Overpriced and not what we expected.

We had booked into the Misty Waves for 8 days, we arrived the first night and my 11 year old son had a camp bed with no matress! We politely asked for one, but the staff were nothing but rude. The decor is very dated and fussy, the breakfast looked as if it had been sitting there for a week!! We checked out the next morning, and checked into the Harbour House Hotel around the corner which is fabulous, new and modern!!!!
Misty Waves is nothing but boutique!!!!! DONT GO!

Staying at Misty Waves was a big mistake. Although, Hermanus was beautiful our trip was ruined by this Boutique Hotel. The service was terrible and actually down right rude. The staff's unfriendliness and unhelpfulness became understandable once meeting the manager, Clinton Lerm. When you go to a place like Hermanus you hope for charm and hospitality...you will not receive this from Misty Waves.

I have mixed reviews about Misty Waves. The room and bathroom were very large and clean, although the decor was a little over the top. We didn't have a view of the water, but we booked a little late for high season.
The service at Misty Waves was very good. That is probably the best thng about the hotel.
The breakfast buffet was adequate, but not as good as many I have had. The only eggs were overly wet, pre-cooked scrambled eggs. Even hard-boiled would have been a nice alternative.
The use of the internet at Misty Waves was totally outrageous. We were charged 50 Rand for 30 minutes. My advise is to walk into town (1 block and use one of the many internet cafes that charge 10 Rand an hour).
The other thing that was a big disappointment was the rooftop restaurant. As nice as the staff people were there, the food was just not good. It was probably the worst meal we had in our 12 days in South Africa. Sorry!
However, if you are looking for great food, I highly recommend going to the Newton Johnson Winery and eating at their restaurant, Heaven. It was so good, we went there twice!

  • Liked — The customer service was excellent.
  • Disliked — That the view from our room was blocked by another building close to the street.
