When visiting Hermanus the Fernkloof Nature Reserve is a must. The fynbos is unequaled in the world. You are enchanted with every tiny flower you find. The hiking trails are well marked and there are long and short routes. Be aware that you need proper hiking gear for the longer routes. It gets really hot - take enough water. Do not forget your camera, sunhat and sunblock.

I attended a beautiful, romantic wedding in Fernkloof a week ago, besides the gorgeous bridal couple, Fernkloof stole the show, as it always does, we even saw baboons on the lawns, they came out of hiding to make our day so special. It rained, the first for a very long time, we've been blessed with a very specail summer and I think the rain was the cherry on the wedding cake. Made us all come closer, chat, share memories of other brides who were late, I think every visitor to Hermanus should go for a walk or hike in Fernkloof, to miss it would really be sad.. pack your hiking boots or walking shoes atleast, make the effort you'll not be disappointed. I've been many times over the years and every visit has been a special one. I think you could even get a guide for a day who'll look after you.

This reserve is for everyone with Gardens and hikes for all standards, hikes are well but inconsistently marked, consequently a good map would be required for novices. Take water and snacks. Little shade so hats etc.
