We visited Sumaridge as part of a trip to the area in October 2011 as part of a trip to the region visiting wine estates and Hermanus.

The vineyard is situated in a valley with impressive views. We sat out on the balcony and tasted some of the wines, with views over the estate and the mountains beyond. The dramatic scenery of the region adds to the experience. The wine is very nice and we left having purchased a good selection of their offerings!

I would recommend Sumaridge to anyone visiting the area or as part of a wine tour of South Africa. There are plenty of other equally high quality wineries in the area to visit.

Thank Sandy B

A leisurely drive from Cape Town, Hermanus is a charming seaside town that is best known for it's whales and whale watching. The vast beach is well worth a visit, but nestling behind the protective mountains, approximately 10 mins drive from the town centre, is a hidden gem....The Sumaridge wine estate. Lovingly nurtured by the Bellingham Turners, Sumaridge produces some superb wines from the vines tended to by the expert viniculturist, Gavin Paterson.
But, unlike many wine estates, here you can stay in the beautiful guest house, usually with a plentiful supply of their wonderful produce, with views over the valley, all the way down to the sea. The house itself is beautifully welcoming, self catering with 4 double bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms. Outside, the garden offers plenty of space, with the occasional visiting donkey! There's even a boules court for those who appreciate a glass of Rose and some in-house competition before supper, which you can have at the restaurant in the main house, where the wine is produced.

It is hard to leave Sumaridge. It's peacefulness and sense of comfort are very addictive. You settle in immediately, feeling very much at home. Take some books, swim suits for the jacuzzi on the balcony and relax here with a glass of wine that was produced from the vines that surround you. There's something rather delicious about that.

This quite, beautiful wine estate doesnt feel like a commercial wine farm where everything is rushed. The staff are friendly and knowlegable and the wines are great. The Rose is one of the best Rose's I have taste in South Africa. Really a greast stop if you find yourself in the Overberg area.

Thank you for taking the time to review Sumaridge Estate Wines. The Pinot Noir from the valley is, quite rightly, world renowned. We are hoping to show our wines next year at the Pinot Noir celebration in Oregon....a mighty long way from Virginia - but not as far as SA. I hope we can meet!

Kind regards,
Holly
