Lots of sandy white beaches, with picnic area (with braai spots) close by. Unfortunately this is marred by our local munisipality charging a R10.00 entrance fee. As a tax paying local, I WILL NOT pay this extra tax to enjoy a pleasure spot provided there by the grace of God!!

“Picture-Perfect + Long Walks and Beach Picnics”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

Grotto beach is perhaps a ten minute walk away from the beaches of central Hermanus, and makes for a splendid, scenic location for a long walk all afternoon. Stretching for several miles, Grotto beach is not my favourite beach to go swimming in the area, but is definitely my favourite beach to go to for a long walk on, that never disappoints. Don't go to Grotto when it's raining or when the weather is particularly unpleasant/cold, but when the weather is sunny and agreeable, Grotto beach can become a place of serenity and perfection. There are several hills cupping the beach and can provide great sunset or beach views, and there are some amazing photography options, especially what with the magnificent and picturesque mountains behind the glistening waves. Although, be careful, because during high tide the waves can be merciless, despite the lifeguards situated across different areas on the beach. Beach picnics and long walks are two favourable things that Grotto beach is absolutely perfect for.

But swimming impossible because of currents, even though life guards on site. Good beach beds and brollies for hire,

Stunning location. What a magical place for a long walk and watch the sun go down. A really nice find.

“Walking for miles”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

Grotto beach is miles and miles long. Sand dunes, sea grass, shells, gulls. A fierce ocean that is very dangerous and cold at the bet of times. For an early morning or late afternoon walk, Grotto Beach is wonderful. Our family spent many happy hours were spent on that beach.
