“Inflexible pricing whilst the hotel is nearly empty”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

Have the owners of the Marine not thought of last minute rates or Winter specials? We find it so sad to see the staff demoralized as they are concerned about the lack of trade. If you were to decrease room rates then at least your two restaurants would be well supported. Instead each time we go there we are often the only people. Think....feet through the hotel creates a good ambience, encourages staff and fills the bank account? Feed back would be appreciated as we'd miss the hotel if it closed.
The Arabella offers outstanding facilities for a third of the price.

We are terribly sorry that you found our pricing inflexible. It surprises me though as we have many Winter special offers visible on our website and through our reservations department. We generally perform refurbishments in one of our restaurants over the Winter period hence there would only have been one restaurant open.
Be sure that I will take the matter up seriously with all of our employees because it distresses me that you found our staff looking demoralised where in actual fact there is more work to be done in the Winter.
Feel free to contact me on hamish@themarine.co.za to expand on your experience.
Kind regards

Just fabulous, great rooms, lovely service from very friendly staff, ideal for our two night stopover on the way to Knysna then three nights at the sister hotel in Plettenberg. Met with friends for dinner in the restaurant, very good.
A hotel not to be missed on your way from Capetown down the Garden Route.

We took my mom in law here as she had not been to Hermanus for 60 years. She is ill with cancer and battles with stairs. They gave us the most superb side bayside suites. The management and staff all thoroughly spoilt us. Thank u

What a pleasure it was to welcome your Mum-in-law back to Hermanus in so many years. She must have been flabbergasted at all the changes since her last visit but delighted to find that it is still a very warm and friendly village lifestyle.
We hope to welcome you back again in the near future.

My wife and I stayed at the Marine for three night in April 2013, and enjoyed what can only be described as the pure luxury of this superb hotel. One of the three Liz McGrath Collection hotels, it is beautifully decorated, the food is delicious, and what you would expect in a high class restaurant, and the staff very friendly and helpful. If you're looking to really spoil yourself for a few days in Hermanus - then this is the place to go! I am in a wheelchair, and the hotel's helpfulness with my disability was excellent, with a wonderful wheelchair-friendly room. All amenities could be accessed by wheelchair, which was a real bonus. We'll definitely be revisiting.

I had my daughter with me, and we ordered the High tea for two, in the lounge. The service was fast and friendly on a rather busy saturday morning.
Can highly recommend this lite mid morning snack.
Good selection of sweet and savoury.
Will be back!

We stayed at the Marine for 2 nights in March on route from cape town to port elizabeth.

The hotel is situated at the end of the main coast road, less than a 2 minute walk into town.

All the rooms look out to sea. Our room was situated on the 1st floor and had a huge lounge with a large window and gigantic bathroom. None of the rooms have a balcony but the rooms on the ground floor have a small patio area with table and chairs.

There are 2 restaurants and a beautiful bar (with lots of oversize couches) which overlooks the sea. We had dinner on the night we arrived in the seafood restaurant, there was lots of dishes to choose from and food was delicious. From check in to check out the service was faultless. They even washed our car just before we left which was a lovely touch.

After a long hike along the cliff walk to grotto beach (not be missed) and back the pool and comfy sun loungers were a welcome treat.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel, if you are looking for a relaxing luxurious treat we would recommend it and can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: All the rooms look out to sea. The ground floor rooms have a small patio area but the views from th...

I was here with my wife for three nights in January 2013. We loved this hotel, and would return to it. The location is superb, and during the whale-watching season it must be incomparable. Our room was very generous and well-equipped. Dinner was excellent. We really enjoyed the cliff-top walks and the dassies playing in the rocks. We felt the standard of service, which was overall very good, slipped a little at breakfast-time, and we would have been pleased if management were a little more visible. We shared these concerns with management, and received a very positive response.

When the Southern Right Whales come into Walker Bay, it is indeed an incomparable sight.
Thank you for your positive comments and we apologise for your poor experience in our breakfast room... a matter that has been dealt with.
