Description: La Vierge, French for 'The Virgin', is nestled in the folds of the breathtaking Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (Heaven and Earth) close to Hermanus. Our lovingly tended vineyards, situated in Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, are characterized by long cool summers influenced by the close proximity of the Atlantic Ocean. Using sketches and drawings by renowned British artist, Sir Michael Adams who works and lives in the Seychelles, a design language was created that reflects the rich symbolism associated with the Hemel-en-Aarde area. Our crest represents Adam and Eve pondering the Serpent and Apple.

This was the spot where we had our small wedding day lunch some 6 years back, although under new ownership, and not all we had heard since the change was good, however, I am delighted to inform all that very little has changed from the earlier years.
Great venue in a perfectly positioned spot. It was rather busy some weeks back with holiday makers from far and wide, and a constant stream of patrons arriving by the minute,
The staff took all in their stride, small menu, clever choices , great food, well presented and priced. Will return for many years hopefully.Well done.

Wayne is a great chef and has put together a menu with sufficient choice with great quality .

The restaurant is only open lunchtimes and is a perfect choice for a light lunch and a good glass of wine with an amazing view.

Staff were friendly and attentive .

Having seen the fine food available at Creation, we arrived quite late at La Vierge and were more than happy to see that they offered a very simple wine tasting platter for 2 - a simple tapas of 5 plates - to go with a couple of the wines, a glass each of Nymphomane (Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec Cabernet Franc) and Original Sin (Sauvignon Blanc). The food was plentiful and of a reasonable quality.

We then headed off to complete our wine tasting at a cost of R30 (we were unable to visit the cellar, but we did sit in the tasting area and were served Domaine Des Dieux and La Vierge wines, although not well talked through the wines.)

The dining room, with it deep, fuchsia pink decor was modern, and I can imagine lends itself well to events. The view from the large windows, across the Hemel-en-Aarde valley and vineyards - both from the restaurant and, surprisingly, from the full length windows in the toilet - was stunning. The view alone was worth the visit. As were the wines.

We were staying in Hermanus & decided to drive up to this lovely winery for some wine tasting & nibbles for lunch.
Fantastic elevated position overlooking a valley of wine farms, the setting is idyllic. They have a large sun deck with casual seating, so you can sit back with a glass of wine & take in the views.
We ordered a meze platter to accompany the wines which included cheese, meats & some delicious chicken liver pate & basil pesto.
Wine tasting costs 20 Rand per person, which is great value to taste 6 lovely wines.
The issue I had was that the service let down the experience. The food took ages, there was no water offered, no napkins, no adequate cutlery & in contrast the wine was being poured in a 'let's get them out of here' pace. This meant that we were half way through the wines before we saw the food that was meant to be accompanying the wine!
When we finished, we had to pay for the tasting & wine I bought separately to the food & I had to chase the waiter around to pay my bill & leave.
This could be an excellent wine tasting, but on my experience it was average. Shame really?

Decided with a few friends to do the Hemel en Aarde wine route, which is the Southern most situated wine route in the country. Being a Sunday a lot of them are closed, so stopped at La Vierge for a wine tasting. When we were seated outside, enjoying the most beautiful views we decided to have a snack to accompany our wines. Chose the Chicken liver pate and one of the group chose the Prawn Starter. Wow what a taste sensation. The wines were peronally a bit young, need to mature a bit more.(my taste) This wine estate is also part of Domaine des Dieux. Will definately go back there for everythign, food, wine and views.
