Description: La Vierge, French for 'The Virgin', is nestled in the folds of the breathtaking Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (Heaven and Earth) close to Hermanus. Our lovingly tended vineyards, situated in Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, are characterized by long cool summers influenced by the close proximity of the Atlantic Ocean. Using sketches and drawings by renowned British artist, Sir Michael Adams who works and lives in the Seychelles, a design language was created that reflects the rich symbolism associated with the Hemel-en-Aarde area. Our crest represents Adam and Eve pondering the Serpent and Apple.

“Fantastic view with good wine, food and service”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

We visited for lunch and found this restaurant in a stunning setting. Every item on the menu was below R100. We selected the wine tasting platter and ordered a good glass of wine each. The waiter was well informed about wines and entertained us well. We had a splendid time, thank you so much. this place offers lunches only and on the odd special occasion is open at night. It is located just outside of town in the winelands which is lovely.

“Even better than my expectations”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

We had heard good things about this restaurant, which has had a new patron/chef for the past five months, but we went there with open minds and not quite knowing what to expect. Wow. Did we get a surprise. We enjoyed the friendly greeting from the La Vierge wine tasting hostess and the wines (especially the reds) were excellent.

The menu is limited but has enough variety to satisfy most people. In most cases starter/main portions are offered at reasonable prices. Even before the food arrived we were impressed by our friendly young waiter, Brinzley. We selected one of the estate's excellent, but expensive at R200 a bottle, Pinot Noir. We were asked if we had tasted the wine chilled or at room temperature. To make sure that we were completely happy, Brinzley brought a taster for us to try. Impressive! He was equally informative and helpful when it came to describing the items on the menu. The food when it arrived was nicely presented and delicious.

Very well done Chef Wayne and your excellent staff. You are obviously well on your way to putting La Vierge restaurant back on the map.

“Glorious views, good food - and service that's friendly but slow.”
Reviewed January 10, 2013 via mobile

This unique spot stands on a hill overlooking rows of vines. Perhaps not so unique for S. Africa but still a delight for this ex-Capetonian, now American, visitor. We had mussels as an appetizer - plump and juicy - followed by a double barreled 'lambburger' that had been anointed with an exceptional jus and a beetroot reduction. Chips were hot, fresh but a tad too salty. My companion had the chicken pesto and loved the big portion (we doggy-bagged both meals). We split three glasses of the house's crisp 'Original Sin' sauvignon blanc. Service was friendly but we were misserved a dish once and waited over a half hour for our appetizer. The view somewhat compensated but they need to step up their delivery for impatient New Yorkers! The bill was R475 for two, including service and tax - About $55/£35 at that day's rate.

“Nice setting, but the meals were a let down and the service poor”
Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

Set in the beautiful Hemel en Aarde valley, just outside Hermanus, you'll find La Vierge. The name sounds impressive, the building is something different, the interior is exquisite and above all the views are great, BUT the wine tasting was a let down, not because of the wine, but the way we were handled. Our glasses were filled and that was basically it. No information were shared and the attitude was one that just wanted us to go sit down and eat. Our waiter was friendly, but he was absent most of the time. The staff were unfriendly (and somewhat irritated), not just with our table but other people also complained. We had rib-eye, prawns and some had burgers - it was to say the least it was bland and not interesting, and in my opinion way overpriced for what we got. It's sad that we experienced it this way, as we have a holiday home close by and love to eat, drink and be happy - we'll propably do it elsewhere. We visited Creation Winery in the same area, just down the road in Hemel en Aarde valley - one word: EXCELLENT!

“Good Wine - but TERRIBLE SERVICE !”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

Terrible terrible service ! The staff spoke about smoking in front of us and ate wraps in front of us. They showed us no interest and pushed us into the corner even thouh we were basically the only ones in house. They were prepping for a wedding so it was disorganised, impersonal and noisy. The staff were rude and spoke about getting drunk and partying so loudly it made us feel uncomfortable and unwanted ! They walked around drinking their own wine - think its even paid for ? Overall I WOULD not recommend this place to anyone !!!!!!
