We are locals and it was our first visit to Moggs Country Cookhouse but it won't be our last! The food was very well prepared and presented and was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent. Good value for money.

“Moggy about Moggs”
Reviewed February 27, 2011

Not a season goes by without us making a booking at Moggs Country cookhouse, if you're in the area it's a must but bookings are essential. This mother and daughter team certainly know there oats! Freshest seasonal ingredients are used to create good old fashioned comfort food with a twist. The menus interesting, flavorful, well planned and caters for all tastes. Lovely to sit outside on a summers day and soulful on a cold winters day.

When we go we have the whole ball of wax, starters, mains and of course dessert.

Take your own wines from the valley there's so much to choose from in the hemel and aarde valley, from the main rd turn off right to Moggs' turn off.

Child friendly. A meal at Moggs will always be remembered I promise. Bon appetit.

“LOVE MOGGS”
Reviewed February 3, 2011

Driving on a dirt road in South Africa may conjure images of horror movies or wild animal attacks but in the Herrman en Arden Valley only a left turn from Hermanus (an hour and half car ride from Cape Town) dirt roads are the way to culinary delight!

Moggs is sign posted by small placards along the valley road which you have to keep your eyes peeled for, and when you take the turn off the main dirt road not a lesser dirt road you may be forgiven for thinking that ounhave taken the wrong turn entirely as it appears you have driven onto someones privat estate...but persevere and drive on because at the end of this narrow winding dirt trail is a quaint, interestingly decorated, family run restaurant.

Now we were there for a private function so we didn't get to experience the full menu, but what we had gave a strong indication that these ladies and gents blow what they are doing.

To start we had Thai Mussels or a Beetroot Fritatta with fresh trout (a member of our party was allergic to fish so the venue made a fresh free from fish dish for him). After polishing these dishes off we know we were in for a treat.

The main course consisted of either fresh line fish on a prawn risotto or Beef Medallions with mashed potato. Obviously Rob and I had one of each dish and we were very very happy!

The beef was cooked to order which is no mean feat as there were at least 20 people in our party ordering the same dish and the risotto was amazing!

Now for any vegetarians reading this review I'm sure you're thinking "oh no not risotto again" but this was different. I'm not talking your porridge like risotto with gruel consistency and images of Oliver Twist asking for more. I'm talking about an almost basmalti rice risotto with a texture and flavour which will be something new for those who are tired of the same old thing.

Can this meal get any better? Yes!

How? DESSERT!!!!!!

With a choice of rum and chocolate mousse or a fresh fruit on homemade pavlova we were in PARADISE! (a sure fire way to my heart is through my stomach with a good merengue and this was good gooey merengue!!!

NOW HERE IS AN IMPORTANT NOTE!!!! Moggs is only open for lunch. The evening opening is only for private functions, but lunch in the Herrman en Arden Valley is what you want as you can spend the morning and the following afternoon tasting the wines of the many vineyards lining the valleys hills (we highly recommend Ataraxia, Moggs neighbouring vineyard)

Overall for us Moggs is a true 8/10 and that was with a limited menu!

“LOVELY FOOD, PERFECT PIT-STOP WHEN VISITING VINEYARDS”
Reviewed January 9, 2011

We visited Moggs in December 2010 and had a lazy lunch there in the middle of a day of visits to vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. We turned up without a booking: no problem, a lovely friendly welcome, mind the cute little dog, come and sit down. The food was stunning: inspired recipes combining flavours with very fresh ingredients. We had Angel Fish, perfectly cooked, and a Middle Eastern aubergine salad for me. All made with beautifully prepared and cooked ingredients. The bread that came was freshly baked and just perfect. The wine was reasonably priced but we opted for fresh fruit juices. A most unlikely venue, off the beaten track but definitely worth the short journey from the main road. And if you are visiting the vineyards in the valley, it's ideally situated just off the road that runs up the valley. A perfect spot for lunch!

“Country cuisine with a difference”
Reviewed June 29, 2010

One of the most precious jewels situated in the Hemel-enAarde Valley! Homegrown vegetables and herbs picked from the beautiful garden, add flavour to well thought out dishes. Wonderful space for the kids to roam, roaring fire in the winter, awesome food & lovely ambience! Well worth the visit!
