Description: This International award winning destination venue is the most unique restaurant setting in the world. Created out of an authentic, cave previously inhabited by a Koi Strandloper of the same name, the restaurant spills out onto the oceans rocks of Walker Bay in Hermanus, where Whale Watching is the preferred local pass-time. The rustic charm and natural ambiance of the cave and it's surroundings is a delight to all our patrons with many returning year after year to sample the delights of Bientang's Cave. With an abundance of sea and bird life as well as Dassies for company, this exquisite setting is heightened by the freshest seafood and an award winning wine list (Diners Club Diamond Award 2010 to 2013).And, should you be a non-seafood(ie), we offer meat, poultry and vegetarian dishes to satisfy any palate. We are also able to accommodate food allergies and special dietary requirements if pre-informed.Reservations are always advised as our location, quality of food and ambiance attract visitors from across the globe throughout the year... However, should you be passing and the aroma's drag you down our stairs, we do have a cocktail/ oyster bar where guests may enjoy a drink whilst waiting for a table.Bientang's Cave is open daily Lunch: 11:30am to 4 pm.Dinners by prior arrangement. Please note Bientang's Cave prides itself in offering large group functions, corporate events, weddings and other functions.

Terrible service, made worse by the worst seafood curry. Go enjoy draft beer on the patio and soak in the venue but do not order anything else.

I am sorry to hear about your poor experience at our restaurant. The 31st of December is one of our busiest days. With 3 seated bookings for the day and a waiting list that couldn't accommodate any more names we where over whelmed with customers and returning guests. This clearly affected the quality of your meal and your service, expectantly as waitrons must travel far allowing you to enjoy the close ocean setting. We do hope you will join us again when we can assure you the high quality service and cuisine we pride our selves on.

The setting is fantastic, effectively built into the cliff face, with wonderful views over the bay. We were lucky enough to see Southern Right Wales in the bay directly from our table! Food was simple but good and tasty fresh seafood. Service was efficient and friendly. Recommended!

If you every have the chance of visiting Hermanus, do please try and fit in a lunch at Bientang's Cave. The Restaurant is down some very steep steps into literally a 'cave' - there is seating inside the Restaurant, but we sat outside on the terrace directly onto the waterfront. The setting is amazing. While we were visiting it was also WhaleThe food was fantastic, do try the large prawns, they are beautiful and very economically priced too. An exceptional Restaurant.

Hubby and myself stopped for Sunday lunch en route to Cape Town.
This was a much anticipated visit, having researched the restaurant and the menu. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations.
The reception was lukewarm to say the least, with nobody to welcome or even acknowledge us. The service was poor and we got the impression that the staff had too much work and not enough interest. Needless to say the wait for drinks and food was long. Unfortunately the food was not nearly as good as anticipated. We ordered the seafood platter and felt it was overpriced for the quality received, although the quantity was what was expected.
The location and the view is beyond expectation. This made the visit worth the while.
Will we return? Probably not, it is a case of been there done that. The view can just as easily be enjoyed from the lookout.
