Description: This International award winning destination venue is the most unique restaurant setting in the world. Created out of an authentic, cave previously inhabited by a Koi Strandloper of the same name, the restaurant spills out onto the oceans rocks of Walker Bay in Hermanus, where Whale Watching is the preferred local pass-time. The rustic charm and natural ambiance of the cave and it's surroundings is a delight to all our patrons with many returning year after year to sample the delights of Bientang's Cave. With an abundance of sea and bird life as well as Dassies for company, this exquisite setting is heightened by the freshest seafood and an award winning wine list (Diners Club Diamond Award 2010 to 2013).And, should you be a non-seafood(ie), we offer meat, poultry and vegetarian dishes to satisfy any palate. We are also able to accommodate food allergies and special dietary requirements if pre-informed.Reservations are always advised as our location, quality of food and ambiance attract visitors from across the globe throughout the year... However, should you be passing and the aroma's drag you down our stairs, we do have a cocktail/ oyster bar where guests may enjoy a drink whilst waiting for a table.Bientang's Cave is open daily Lunch: 11:30am to 4 pm.Dinners by prior arrangement. Please note Bientang's Cave prides itself in offering large group functions, corporate events, weddings and other functions.

A lunch time place for good food and amazing entertainment courtesy of the wonderful whales. Show put on for us was wonderful. Restaurant was incredibly busy on a Tuesday early lunchtime but enjoyed a few very good beers right by the waters edge then got a ring side table and proceeded to enjoy an excellent seafood meal. Love it - another place in Hermanus to add to our growing list. Bit worried about the list of restaurants above this one on the list. Will we really have to try them all to see if we agree??? What a hardship

“Must see”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

This restaurant is built into the cliffs overlooking Hermanus Bay and is almost on the water's edge.If you are lucky you will spot whales within a stones throw of your table.Food is quite good with platters of seafood a specialty but meat dishes too.One word of warning, access is via some serious steps which are definitely user=friedly to older people or the infirm.

“Friendly staff, good food and excellent views”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

We've been here a few times (the first time we were there we saw a mother whale and baby about 50 metres away from us - amazing) - and every time the food has been good. This time I went with my Amstaff puppy and we were wonderfully welcomed even though he's still a bit boisterous and noisy. I don't eat seafood but the burger was great and the view of the sea unbeatable.
Enjoyable experience.

“So disappointing”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

Service by Princess was great, food was basic to totally bland and not shy with the prices, we went there on a recommendation and were hugely disappointed.
