“Wonderful place to stay”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

Brown Jug is the best place to stay in Hermanus. We go back there twice a year and the peace and quiet that we experience there, really helps us to unwind from our busy lives. The swimming pool is wonderfully maintained and lovely in summer. I would advise anyone to go there and experience the ambience of this place.

Our "regulars" are one of the great rewards we experience at the Brown Jug. Our various guests who visit have become like family and we look forward to each and every visit.

Ideal location being a few minutes walk from the sea front but away from traffic and noise. Safe to walk at night. Our accommodation was excellent; we had booked a double room so were very surprised to find a lounge and kitchen as well as outside areas at the back (with a braai) and at the front where we would sit in the early evening with a glass of wine watching the sun go down. We opted to take breakfast in the house and Louise and Abel were the perfect hosts. Breakfast itself was excellent with plenty of good food cooked to your liking. I loved Louise's fruit salad with the selection of fruit I don't get at home. They have a vast knowledge of the area and very willing to help if you need it.
If I was returning to Hermanus this would definitely be my first choice.

This B+B is situated in a safe quiet residential area within walkable distance of the town centre and the coast. We (two couples) stayed three nights in the self-catering annex. The unit had two ensuite bedrooms off a good-sized lounge/dining area. A well fitted kitchen was accessed through one of the bedrooms. There was a braai on a terrace outside the living room with an unheated swimming pool alongside. This provided a good base for exploring the area. We took the option of having breakfast served in the hosts adjoining house. The breakfasts were generous and well-served.

Abel and Louise are a very helpful and interesting couple who left us with good memories. We would certainly return.

We travelled with two young children so the flexibility of the two bedroomed suite was perfect. There was a selection of videos to keep the children entertained. Our hosts were lovely and breakfast was great. Louise even stood in the rain to hold the gate open to let us out on the day of our departure.
Go to Rossi's for lunch or dinner, it is a few blocks off the seafront but all the better for being a bit off the beaten track. It is very child friendly we got pizza dough to play with whilst our meal was cooed and the pizza and pasta was excellent.

We stayed a few nights at the Brown Jug in Hermanus. Louise and Abel made every effort to ensure we got the most out of our short stay. They arranged whale watching and shark diving trips for us from Gansbaai which were awesome! The accommodation at the Brown Jug is first class and it is very well situated - a short walk from the centre of this lovely resort.

Hermanus itself is a great place to stay - good restaurants, nice beaches and fabulous whale watching from the cliffs!

We cannot recommend the Brown Jug too highly. Just one small thing - if you have toddlers keep an eye on them as the swimming pool is not protected.
