We had a late lunch at the Savannah Cafe after going on a midday whale watching cruise. We found the restaurant by accident (while getting lost driving around Hermanus), but are glad that we did, because the food was very good. We (four adults and two children) had a mix of sandwiches, salads, and seafood. Our kids had pasta. Everyone was happy with their meals.

While we there, we had a chance to spend some time speaking with the owner, who was very friendly. He gave us some great sightseeing advice for the drive back to Cape Town. We stopped at a spot that he suggested for watching the sun set and got some great photos.

All in all, we're glad that we discovered the Savannah Cafe.

We are from Cape Town, and my boyfriend's parents live in Onrus, so we visit the area a lot. I must say, that I am slightly biased, my boyfriend used to work at Savannah, and has an abiding love for the place, but I must also say that this is rare! As a former waiter, I know that it's hard to love a place when you're exposed to it all day, every day!

That said, the food is impeccable, the baked caramel cheesecake has to be tried to be believed, and the hot fudge pecan nut tart is just incredible! Celia and Ryno are unfailingly pleasant, and so engaging, not just with us (former staff and girlfriend) but with all patrons. They truly value each and every customer, and also seem to truly enjoy what they do.

I recommend Savannah Cafe to everyone I know, and I maintain that you just don't get such incredible food, impeccable service and amazing friendliness in other restaurants. No matter what's happening, whenever we go to Hermanus, we always visit Savannah, and will continue to do so!

The Savannah Cafe became our regular 'haunt' in Hermanus during a longish stay in nearby Stanford.
During our 2nd visit, the owner remembered we'd been before and said how nice it was to see us back again....how often does that happen these days?!
By the time we left the area, we had met the same staff several times and the owner at a separate function - both she and her staff go out of their way to make customers feel welcome and that their custom is appreciiated.
As for the food....well presented, good combination of flavours, excellently priced and most importantly tasted great!
I personally loved the decor and atmosphere is this place - clean and calming and a good selection of 'deli' type foods + bathroom/toiletries too.
We sampled a number of local restaurents around the Hermanus area, and for lunches, this one really tops the bill.
Well done to Celia and her efficient, friendly team....do keep up your high standards, and we look forward to visiting you again on out next visit...BRAVO!
PS Other Hermanus dining establishments....please take note!!

I have been to Hermanus ( Amazing place : wales, shark, surf, landscape and calm) and I had lunch at the Savannah Café, close to the coast.

The owner of the restaurant gave us a map of what you can do around, told us where you can eat seafood, and where you can see wales. He was very friendly like all his team. Without being to oppressive, he did his possible to meet our expectations

And I was not expecting that much !!
The decoration is really nice, simple and pleasant. You can buy local products: cakes and sweets.

We did not wait to eat our lasagnes with a fresh salad. Both were awesome : My lasagnes were perfectly cooked, very tasty and light ( which is quiet unusual !). The salad was a mix of fresh and unctuous peepers with peanuts and lettuce. There home made sauce is impossible to miss. Savannah Cafe is really fast and delicious.

I paid R42 to enjoy this meal which is really cheap.

You can have a breakfast or a Lunch there, and it is impossible to miss it.
The only problem is that they can be full and you will have to eat outside in front of the parking lot. Not really pleasant. But it is just a detail.
