Stayed here for two nights, had the upper room looking over the Bay, twice we were lucky to see whales jumping out of the sea from the room. We walked the cliff route to the town and again saw whales jumping. We visited in November and went to the Burgundy Restaurant, best meal in a long time, the crab cakes are to die for as well as the ostrich steaks! But you need to book if going after 6pm.
During one evening we were also lucky enough to see another whale jumping about five times in a row - whilst eating our evening meal!
Excellent!
The room had full tea coffee facilities, lovely bathroom and excellent breakfast. Parking on site and very good location, allowing you to walk into town for an evening meal and not worrying about drinking!

Room Tip: For us two nights were enough.

Lovely guesthouse, great facilities, safe parking and in a good location. The decor of the room was very stylish and everything was very clean. The breakfast was fantastic and from the balcony the sea view is great way to start your day!

We spent 3 nights here and were not disappointed. We had a room at the back which was quiet, not the room mentioned by the previous reviewer. Though on the small side we had all that we needed in the room and bathroom and it was very clean. We had breakfast on the upstairs lounge front balcony when weather permitted, with a wonderful sea view. Breakfasts were cooked to order and were plentiful and good, using locally sourced and fresh products. It is indeed a bonus that you can walk into town along the cliff path and return within 5 minutes in the evening along the road after a restaurant meal. Estha has a direct manner which is fine by me. We did not find her unfriendly and she gave us helpful suggestions about where to eat.

We stayed in a room that "faces the garden". It faces a small patch of grass and some overgrown scrubs. No wall, a screen between room and shower area. No real chairs in room. Extension cord provided because there are not enough plugs in room. An extension cord, really?Coffee and tea facilities on top of small bar fridge that is standing on the floor, so very, very low, you have to really bend down. Bell to alert manager that guests are at the gate close to room so DING DONG, DING DONG. Room at entrance of Guest House so lots of traffic on creaky floors.Photo is misleading. This is not close to the beach or the main town area. Compared to Guest House in Swellendam with the same 4 Star rating we stayed at 4 days ago, this is not even vaguely in the same class.

We stayed at the Whale Away for 2 nights and had the spectacular honeymoon-suite. The room itself and the guest house in general are very nice and the huge bathroom of the suite is just incredible. The breakfast is good and the location is nice, too. There is a view of the sea from the balcony, yet the sea is some 200 metres away. A big minus was the manageress, who was unattentive and rather unfriendly which tainted our experience somewhat. Especially because normally we prefer guest houses over hotels due to their nice atmosphere and the atmosphere created by the manageress was not hospitable at all.

We were pleased to find that we were on the way out of Hermanus on Main road as this was the quieter part of town. The road was a bit busy in the morning and traffic woke me a couple of mornings. I would ask for a room at the back if I returned although the rooms at the front had a better view- so fine if you are not a light sleeper. The sitting room has a lovely deck with views of the sea albeit across the Main road, which was the only negative. Our bedroom was beautifully clean and furnished, nice big bathroom and a deck from the french windows to overlook the small pool. Our hostess was very helpful and booked a lovely restaurant - the Burgundy- for my birthday.and breakfasts were excellent . We were able to walk into town which was a bonus and there was a good choice of restaurants to try out- Burgundy definitely the best- we went there twice.

Room Tip: Be aware that it is on a road and there is traffic noise in the morning- the front rooms had a super...

Set just outside the town by the cliff path the views are magnificent. The walk along the path into town is great and we saw whales every time we took it. Estha, the owner, is very obliging and does great breakfasts. The standard of the room is very good and we had a balcony with views of the ocean.

Room Tip: Take a sea view not a mountain view, it is worth the extra.
