“Lush and fragrant!”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

We arrived here in the evening on a Sunday, pretty tired from our traveling along the Garden Route. We were greeted with a champagne welcome with some snacks. We rode in golf carts with our luggage being pulled behind in a trailer and checked into our rooms. Nice rooms, but not over the top. We had a "luxury" room with a balcony and view of the golf course. We went immediately to the other building--the clubhouse area for a snack since it was Sunday night and the restaurants were closed by then. We had nice cocktails and salad/soup and sandwich fare.
The next day we walked the grounds and took in the beautiful and fragrant florals! The most wonderful bush I ever met is called a "Yesterday,Today & Tomorrow" bush and it was sooo fragrant you wouldn't believe it!! It was green and about 6 feet tall with small lavender and white azalea type flowers!! Heavenly!!! We also ate breakfast in their outdoor patio area under a purgola with purple Wisteria flowers hanging down--just lovely! And the food especially a certain type of local honey (name?) was very good! We also had some dirty clothes that we sent to be laundered with a same day return--and they came back delivered to our room in a velvet-like covered box with removable lid--very elegant!! We did not play golf--but just from walking around and looking--the course looked very well groomed. The pool area was nice--although it was cool and no-one was using it. They have a nice clothing store and I even used the hair salon to have a wash and a nice braid done--very professional, accommodating and friendly! Overall-it was a very nice place to stay along the Garden Route!

Thank you for sharing your delightful experience of Fancourt.

Receiving positive feedback is always a pleasure and I am sure that fellow travelers will find your review insightful and comprehensive. I have noted your attention to the different plants in our immaculate gardens, on your next visit we would like to arrange a garden walk for you with our passionate Grounds and Gardens Manager, Chris Gomersall. May I suggest a visit in September/ October as it is spring and the gardens are in glorious bloom.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

i do not think i have ever seen a place like this. A hotel/resort that is having walking trace of 10 km inside hotel. Even if you do not play golf you love this place. what a scenic resort. You just love walking. we stayed 2 days and both days went walking for more than an hour. it was like...feel like walking all the time. Very good service all over...from entry to the reception to the room by golf cart. The restaurants, spa, pool...everything...clean...perfect...well served...Restaurant serving italian...very good and authentic taste...chef was very receptive...

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are little better because you get opportunity to use outside place attached with...

Thank you for sharing your delightful experience of Fancourt.

We are a truly exceptional resort as we are set on 613 hectares so there is an abundance of nature to explore with three leisure trails of 2.5, 5 and 10 km that guests can walk, run or cycle. A lot of our guests comment that it reminds them of life as they were growing up, with the freedom to walk around within a secure estate and the children absolutely love to explore the resort.

We hope to see you back at Fancourt soon!

First up, the only reason why we stayed at this property was that it was a pre-requisite for me to play golf at the famous 'links' course the following day (Up to now, most of our travels have been in small B&B type establishments).

My wife and I also played 9 holes of golf the previous evening on the Montagu course, which was well maintained and a lot of fun. April is said to be a good time to visit, as the Summer heat has gone, as well as the oil day crowds.

Staying in a large resort certainly has a different feel to it, but all in all we had a nice stay. Our room (#510, in case others are of different quality) was a good size, with a generous bathroom. Unfortunately our room didn't have any sort of view, so if this is important to you, it might be wise to inquire when booking.

We had dinner at La Cantina (the more casual of the two restaurants, but it was certainly nice enough to meet our expectations), plus a complimentary breakfast in the same room the next day.

While I headed off to golf at The Links, my wife indulged in a spa treatment, which she said was great.

This is probably one of the most expensive places to play/stay in the area, so if that puts you off, then maybe search for an alternative, however, when we converted the prices into our home currency (Australian dollars), we felt the value was pretty good compared to what things would cost at home.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful feedback of Fancourt.

I am sure that fellow travelers will find your constructive and informative review very helpful. For your next visit I would suggest staying in the Manor House which is our boutique 18 suite hotel as it has a more “intimate feel” to Fancourt with bespoke butler service.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

This is the best of everything - better than The Leela in Goa, better Taj Exotica in Sri Lanka and the best we have ever had the pleasure of staying in. The staff are first class the food is magnificent and the rooms are superb. If you play golf, you will never find three golf courses of the like anywhere in the world, the Links you are treated like Royalty the course is a joy and tough with a challenge for all levels and views that would shame anywhere. The Outenegua and the Montague are of a standard only surpassed by The Links. Any review does not give this place justice you just have to go there and savor the experience. My best place so far - go enoy

A 5 star golf property. We arrived in the evening and left in the morning so didn't use much of the services of the hotel. The rooms were very good and food was excellent. Staff was professional and very friendly. The property hosts a lot of sporting events and is a nice property for family picnics and day outs. The hotel offers a lot of activities in house.

Room Tip: Take The Manor House!!

We rented a private Lodge House overlooking the 18th fairway of The Montague Course for 3 weeks.
Without doubt this golfing paradise is exceptional.
Club Hose facilities, Spa, Pool, Pro Shop, People and surroundings perhaps the best in South Africa.
Golf buggies only in and around the estate make the experience more acceptable.
Quite, friendly and rewarding.

Room Tip: Speak with The Clubhouse Reception Staff. They are most helpful. Rooms and Lodges with golf course...

Thank you for sharing your experience of Fancourt.

It is always a delight to receive positive reviews of Fancourt, and to see our guests enjoying all that Fancourt has to offer. As you say this is an “exceptional” resort with 3 Gary Player designed golf courses and numerous activities to keep non-golfers entertained.

Great great resort with nice huges rooms and great restaurants and the No. 1 & 7 golf courses in SA.

Our room didnt have the beat view but that was our own fault as we booked late. But most houses or rooms had a view over one of the golf courses.

Nice bar with a view of 18th green. Lots of local beautiful wines at cheap money for us foreigners.

We paid 2200 rand for a round of golf on Montague, one night in a twin room, a voucher for 250 rand which is extremely cheap for foreigners with todays exchange rates.

We were lucky to get a teetime at The Links too and the was fantastic, but very difficult but a great great course.

If you get to SA you must go to George.

Thank you for your complimentary review of Fancourt!

We are incredibly fortunate to be situated in the heart of the Garden Route and to have the facilities that we have available to us. I am sure with the exchange rate being truly in your favour, South African prices would be “extremely cheap”.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon!
