“excellent look in its exterior but not the interiors”
Reviewed October 23, 2011

I was given room nos 510 which had an old modeled TV not in a proper working condition.(not the LEDs or LCDs) and on bringing it to the notice of one staff member he said tvs dont make a hotel five star category.THANKs for making us enlightened! Also on one end my room curtain was loosely hanging but was soon repaired. I said that we were a honeymoon couple but unlike all other five stars there was no help in getting me a room with better view. They said they were too full b'coz of golf tournament and showed me that my reservation on 29th september was too late for my stay on 15th october stay as if all people had booked in advance than me with the room categories mentioned or may be they may be thinking this is my first stay in a five star hotel. No options for people looking for veg menu( no one will be bothered to help you unlike other five star hotels) and we just had to eat only fruits and drink juices. For your kind information Mr manager my michael angelo stay in j'burg, table bay stay in capetown etc were much better as they knew how to attend each guest with little more humbleness( not to boast about your golf tournaments as lame excuse for poorish service)
And may be not only good exteriors and a golf course does not make the hotels a five star category its the clients satisfaction. On other days you all may be good for many but for you all were not that good as we don't visit south afica every year). thank you..

Room Tip: please do book way in advance with the room nos mentioned.

We were on our honeymoon & received an upgrade from the small room we had booked to a luxury suite in the Manor House.

Needless to say, this was the best place we have ever stayed. The staff were extraordinary & went out of their way to give us a truly memorable experience while never being intrusive.
The room was modern, stylish, comfortable & had a huge bathroom.
The estate was picturesque & beautiful at every turn. I was fortunate enough to play the excellent Montagu course & thoroughly enjoyed my experience.

We considered ourselves privileged to have stayed here & would love to return (even if we didn't get another upgrade!).

After being to Fancourt for the last 7 years, 2011 was a vast improvement. The hotel has always been of a very high standard, but we felt that the standards had dropped in terms of service and general maintenance. This has changed and it is back to being world class. It is one of the most beautiful venues and offers so much for the entire family.

Look no further than the Fancourt in George for an ideal family holiday, this is so much more than a luxury golf estate, the standard of service is beyond excellent, the grounds are magnificent and the facilities for children all year round are exceptional. If you are looking for a value for money five star experience that has golf , spa, entertainment for children and beautiful beaches 15 minutes away this hotel will not dissapoint. If you are travelling with older children and you want to spoil yourself stay at the brand new MANOR HOUSE at fancourt, they dont accept children under 16 as this is a luxury retreat offering the highest standards of service with exceptional attention to detail, all round this is the perfect destination for a family.

Fancourt Hotel & Golf Estate was just the getaway we needed. There was something for everyone – golf, spa, children's activities, swimming pools, great food, friendly and attentive (but not intrusive) staff, even some local wildlife (monkeys, duck, birds, lizards) – the full package. The breakfast food was only surpassed by the brilliant view and dinner in the evening restaurant was great (as our waistlines can attest). We spent four days enjoying all the amenities on the estate and got plenty of exercise walking around the pedestrian paths surrounding the two golf courses. We scored a great package with lots of extras (even in the midst of so-called "World Cup Fever" season). Our 6 year old still talks about it and we're all looking forward to returning one day!

Stayed in one of the Resort Lodges for five days of serious golfing. The lodges themselves are very comfortable but lacking in super high whizz gadgetry ... not that you necessarily need/want that. Staff are all very friendly and breakfast is magnificent (as my waistline will confirm). As for the golf, well the Gary Player-designed Links is truly astonishing (and astonishingly tough when played in high winds), although the Montague, while beautifully manicured, is probably a little overrated (once considered South Africa's premier course). I preferred Oubaai, an Ernie Els track a 20-minute drive away. George is a staggeringly scenic part of the world, although there isn't a tonne to do in the town itself. Not exactly a hotbed of action you might say, although there are some pretty decent restaurants. "Unfortunately they closed the strip club," lamented one local chap I befriended in the hotel bar. (I should point out that "they" isn't Fancourt; the strip joint was in town somewhere). All in all a wonderful place to get away from it all (and play lots of golf). Oh, and if you get the chance, try a bottle of Retief Goosen's wine, "The Goose" Expression. Rather nice Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon blend.
