“Hyatt Regency Oubaai...oh my! : )”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

We stayed at Oubaai after spending the previous week touring Capetown, Cape Point, Stellenbosch, and going on safari. Our accommodations up to this point were quite nice but we were in South Africa so we didn't know what to expect. During the planning process, we were trying to decide if we should stay here or at Fancourt. We have stayed at another Hyatt Regency that is pretty bad so we were hesistant about choosing Oubaai. Ultimately we decided to stay at the Oubaai and we are glad that we did. This hotel is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The property was beautiful and the staff was very professional. We were upgraded to a club level suite that was gorgeous. There was a separate sitting area, business area with desk, and shower/bath area. The shower/bath area was like something out of Architectural Digest. There was a stand alone tub, rain shower and regular shower enclosed in a room where the walls are glass and they slide. They provide a yoga mat and yoga DVDs. My husband golfed at the Oubaai Golf Club. The views from the course are stunning. The first night we dined at the Waterside Grill. The restaurant is beautiful but the food was merely okay and expensive. Overall, we love Oubaai so much we are going to stay there again in November.

We just had a lovely relaxing 1 night stay at the Hyatt to celebrate my birthday. Friendly, informative check-in staff, beautifully understated elegance visible in our King Club room and open areas of the hotel made it a peaceful haven after a rather stressful week!
Weel done to all involved in making our stay so memorable. Good food, fine wine and a comfy bed in beautiful surroundings... What more can you ask for?
The only negative that would probably affect me had we stayed longer, is the lack of WIFI in the bedrooms. But all in all, a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: I love the King Club room inside the main hotel building with the Regency Club with coffee and snack...

This is definitely the best Hyatt hotel we've stayed in. The views from the veranda outside the coffee shop and from some of the rooms are some of the most gorgeous! The rooms are modern and beautifully designed and laid out. The bathroom is see through with the bath just a step away from the rain shower which was great as you could go from one to the other without worrying about wetting the floor and getting cold. The hotel is a golf resort with most of the rooms outside the main building and golf carts available to shuttle guests around. Dinner at the coffee shop downstairs was excellent! I enjoyed one of the most tender, delicious steaks ever! Also free wifi in the lobby. Overall excellent stay!

The process of making reservations is seamless and smooth. The hotel itself is exquisitely positioned; from the balcony of your room you can see the tranquil Indian ocean and the majestic Outeniqua mountains. Within 10 minutes you can be at the Heroldsbay beach or on the highway on your way to the nearby city of George. The hotel caters for all tastes; from golf to gym, tennis, squash, hiking and the kiddies' club. The rooms are big enough and well furnished. The service from the porters, reception staff, restaurant is something to behold and everywhere you are met with friendliness. You are made to feel that staff at the hotel go out of their way to make the hotel a home away from home for its guests. To cap it all a few days after our stay, I received an email thanking us for staying at the hotel, accompanied by a short survey trying to establish how the hotel can improve! Other establishments can learn a lot from the Hyatt Regency Oubaai Golf Resort & Spa. We already planning our next stay there.

Room Tip: The rooms on the east side are sunny and offer an awesome view of the ocean and the mountains, espec...

We came here with the family in July 2012.
The hotel rooms are comfortable and big, but the bathroom is "modernly-designed", which means that they don't have doors and are open from one side. Also, they have semi-transparent glass walls, which makes it ideal for couples and very uncomfortable for families/friends. It was the end of the rains, and our room was on the ground floor. There were many earthworms crawling out into our room every night, which was a bad experience. We asked the hotel to clean them, which they did, but the worms returned every day. Our bathroom sink also got clogged, which was a bit frustrating. The hotel rooms are very far from each other and one needs the hotel golf cart to reach them, which is a problem during the rains. The breakfast spread is also quiet OK and nothing very lavish, compared to normal 5 star hotel. I say this, because we were on a tour and had been to two 5-star hotels on the same trip. The whale deck was under construction and we couldn't see it.
After reading all the good reviews, I was hoping for a better experience, but I sadly leave with a bitter one.
