In November 2010, we stayed two nights in Edenwood Guesthouse during a four week trip through South-Africa. The owners Dawn and Stan were on holiday themselves and we were received by their daughter and shwon to our room. This room was a very large en-suite family room with a private kitchen. George is not directly on the main tourist route along the coast and that probably why the cost of accommodation is lower than in Plettenberg Bay, Knysna of Mosselbay. But at 600 Rand a night (breakfast excluded because the owners were away), the very clean and spacious room was a bargain. Edenwood also has a small but lovely swimming pool. There is free use of the Internet as well. The place itself in a suburb close to nature and many trails but far away from the centre, but we had a car, so this didn't constitute a problem. But be advised, you have to drive if you want to go to the restaurants and pubs in York street. I would recommend a stay at Edenwood as a clean and affordable Guesthouse to anyone who is thinking of visiting George for a couple of nights and doesn't want to pay the outrageous rates some places directly at the coast charge. And the coast is less than half an hour driving away and George gives you an excellent access to the surounding mountains and wonderful scenic routes over the passes.
