“Fantastic!”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

Had a great lunch at Pastis recently.

They have a lovely patio area covered with vines and large trees around.

I started with the duck liver pate - it was delicious and rich. The I had the salt & pepper calamari as a main course - also excellent.

We had the Constantia Glen Sauvignon Blanc and it went very well with the food.

Also loved the guy in the corner playing the saxophone - a nice touch.

Benita was our waitress and boy if only more restaurants had waiters like her! Food was great!! Home baked breads were fabulous! Also noticed some international beers on the menu!

“An unfortunate starter”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

We celebrated an aunts 80th birthday at Pastis. It began with the waitress toppling the contents of the drinks tray over the backs of three of us, totally drenching one of my dinner companions shirt. The staff were very apologetic but did nothing to compensate us for the unpleasant experience. Luckily one of us had a spare shirt in the car.

The very pleasant live background music was a lovely surprise and the food was excellent and well presented in all respects. They allowed us to bring in our own birthday cake for dessert which was generous of them.

The toilets are tucked away down three short staircases and were dirty with an overflowing bin. My elderly guests struggled up and down the stairs.

It was clear that the waitress was going to have to pay for the spilled drinks as they were penciled off the bill, leaving us feeling very uncomfortable. They then added the reordered drinks to the bill! The manager would have done better to have compensated us in some way (at least surely pay for the drinks) and ensured that the spilled drinks were not reflected on the bill. Very poor management.

“Dissapointing”
Reviewed November 17, 2013 via mobile

Service on the slow side. Food very mediocre. Not the place to go for a quiet Sunday lunch. Very basic and good for families or larger crowds.

“AN EXCELLENT BRASSERIE AND A JOY TO VISIT”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

This brasserie has a real French atmosphere and the kind of place one often looks for but rarely finds. We reserved a table outside for 7.30pm. The seating is attractive and there was the smell of lavender and jasmine, there were twinkling lights and, as it was cool, there was the red glow of overhead heaters. Everywhere looked delightful. I ordered the tomato tart which was in a soft pastry lined with pesto sauce, topped with a light egg soufflé kind of mixture and tomatoes. It was delicious. My Partner ordered the new seasons asparagus, gratinated and served with tiny pieces of ham. It was perfect. I ordered the liver and bacon with creamed potatoes which was just as it should be. My Partner had the Beef Stroganoff which had an authentic flavour and it was very good. For desert we shared vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. Coffee was excellent. The service was attentive and we were made to feel most welcome. There was plenty to eat and there were no gimmicks and we could not recommend the restaurant highly enough. There is obviously somebody in the kitchen who knows how to cook and this is becoming increasingly rare in Cape Town.
