Pastis has always been a favourite of ours but we weren't impressed by the change introduced by the new chef patron. The menu had been changed & our old favourites were not as good as they used to be.

I have always like this place. The food although typically quite simple is really decent, and they have great specials. It is a really good place for a less formal dining experience and has a nice pub as well. They often have sports on the TV.

A dose of French flair in Constantia. Excellent food - even the vegetables accompanying the main course of perfectly done (and reasonably priced) Kingklip. It's not often that a waiter says "yes" without hesitation to a request for Underberg (pity I had to ask for a glass). Even on a chilly evening customers would rather sit outside (under blankets courtesy of the restaurant) to enjoy the fresh air filled with the smell of trees and greenery. Inside is a cosy but spacious bar with fireplace and prints of Paris. We'll be back!

Having had a good lunch at Pastis, we went there for dinner on a weekday evening. The food was excellent but the service poor as our overworked waiter forgot to tell us about the specials, or to serve bread at the table, or to bring water... And the noise was like a very busy, noisy railway station as one had to shout or lip-read the person right across the table over the shouting and drunken laughter of the patrons in the curtain-less room. Fortunately the manageress walked around and she acted as a waitress for us, although receiving the bread after the main course was something very new for us.

Good food at reasonable prices is not enough to make a pleasant evening - one needs a reasonable level of service and some elegance in the ambiance to make the meal pleasant.

I have been visiting Pastis for the last 5 or 6 years I should think generally when holidaying at Christmas. I think they are steadily improving. The position has always been good (outside better than in) and last night the food was good and great value and the waitress (waitron to the locals) was excellent despite a lack of support. The tian is the best starter IMHO and always reminds me of Frank Dangereuxs when he was at La Colombe.
