Description: The Conservatory, situated adjacent to the historic Cellars-Hohenort cellar, offers diners unparalleled garden vistas from both the sun-drenched terrace and the indoor tables. Carefully constructed around a giant 300-year-old oak tree, The Conservatory is one of Constantia's finest daily breakfast, lunch and dinner venues. Here the head chef creates hotel classics alongside modern and seasonally influenced dishes. The Conservatory menu places a great emphasis on fresh produce from both The Cellars-Hohenort gardens and local green-friendly suppliers, and this gives it the unique ability to showcase a true taste of the Constantia Valley. Friendly service and an award-winning wine list ensure that The Conservatory offers guests and locals an exceptional everyday dining experience.

While staying at the Cellars Hohenhort hotel, we took in dinner one evening at the Conservatory.

The setting is spectacular - something is to be said for dining while being able to look over one of the more amazing hotel gardens in Cape Town.

The menu is well-designed, offering something for most palates, whilst not being overly-extensive. Presentation is excellent. This is complemented by a substantial wine list which includes a good selection by the glass.

The only detractor was that we found service from time to time a little underwhelming. We had to work quite hard to flag down a waiter which I would not have expected from such an establishment.

Dear GrantH398,

Thank you so much for your feedback regarding your dining experience in our Conservatory restaurant.
I am really disappointed that we did not succeed on the service side of things- but will use the feedback in our training sessions with the team.

Kind regards,
Angie

The staff are friendly and helpful as everyone has noted. The ambiance is nice and relaxed. Service can be slow to start but once it gets going things speed up a bit. Should have opted for the famous cheese soufflé. Instead the goats cheese wrapped in pancetta was a bit mean. Just 3 tiny pieces and a huge amount of salad. I was not expecting so many leaves! The calamari was a better choice but not exciting. My chicken snitzel also came with lots of salad. Should have studied the menu more, my fault. Slow roasted lamb shoulder was a hit. Saw a duck in the lovely garden. Felt lunch was a bit flat compared to other visits. Maybe just us.

We chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration and we were not disappointed. Every member of staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The food is simply delicious and cooked perfectly. I can highly recommend the duck - cooked beautifully with crispy skin and such a divine truffle jus. The sides are very generous, we ordered 2 between four people and it was perfect. Our waitress heard us toasting 'Happy Birthday" and secretly organised a little dessert plate for my boyfriend which was wonderful surprise and just topped off the whole experience. Honestly, if you want somewhere to go for a special occasion then I highly recommend the Conservatory.

We so enjoyed our afternoon at the Conservatory. There was enough parking available and staff are exceptionally well trained - courteous, friendly and very helpful. We needed an adaptor for a laptop and it was provided within minutes. There is ample seating outside, inside the conservatory with a view of the garden, as well as very comfortable couches if you prefer to be away from the sunlight. The scones were delicious and the banana muffins were good too, served with excellent strawberry jam, cheese and cream. The iced coffee, milkshakes, hot chocolate were all excellent, although the cappuccino was very strong. After our treats we thoroughly enjoyed walking in the beautiful garden, filled with age-old trees, geese, ducks, and a range of exotic coloured plants and shrubs. A soothing place to meander in after a delicious meal.
