set next to the vines and looking up at Cradle mountain. A beautiful setting. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need. There are 2 very good restaurants and an excellent spa. The included breakfast was very impressive

This hotel is just fantastic! 2 great restaurants, Superb accommodation, first class golf course and the staff are just there to pamper your every need - and they do.

I cannot rate it high enough and value for money it is just about the tops.

We stayed for 6 nights - the complimentary bus took us into Cape Town (20 minutes) and collected us. The food and wine was so good and such good value we ate in one of the 2 restaurants every night.

Cannot wait to go back!

Room Tip: Go for a suite if you can

Stayed for 2 nights rooms 10 &15..spectacular views of mountains, private patios with loungers. Extremely spacious rooms, luxurious and comfortable. Arrived to a free glass of wine, a present ...which was a boxed miniature carriage clock with the steenberg logo. What a delightful touch ...

The service is brilliant in this hotel, they have managed to achieve the perfect balance of attentive without intrusive. Through out my stay I kept my do not disturb on the door, even whilst out for the day, purely because I like to return to the room as I left it. I dont need a turn down service or fresh towels for two days or clean sheets...This was respected no questions asked, and a polite note was popped under the door saying if I needed anything or the room made up to call housekeeping. In other quality hotels this doesnt happen, you get harassed by housekeeping!

The reception staff were always friendly and helpful and are professional but relaxed, not stuffy. It really was a delightful experience and a pleasure to be in such a comfortable environment, every member of staff I encountered were a credit to the hotel...down to a cleaner who chased after me with an umbrella as I walked to breakfast as it was raining!

The restaurant was lovely; excellent food and wine choice . Breakfast waa delicious too, tho a few more pastry choices would be nice.

Wifi is good in the restaurant and bar, but its hopeless in the rooms..virtually impossible to connect. Whilst its free, this definitely needs improving.

The spa was lovely, had a facial and head massage. So relaxing and left feeling like is was glowing!

Brilliant hotel, exceptionally well run, staff training is superb as the service is exemplary. Location peaceful and beautiful. Wonderful experience.

We can’t do the Steenberg justice… Not a day goes by since our stay at the Steenberg when my wife and I don’t think or talk about our holiday with Catherine and her staff. A quite retreat within a fantastic estate that provided for all our needs making for a truly memorable holiday.
The scenery, food, drink and facilities on offer are all fantastic. From sitting on the restaurant terrace in the morning eating breakfast watching the clouds roll over the tops of the mountains to the colonial styling of the hotel it all goes to set you up in such a relaxed mood you cant do anything but enjoy your stay. The food is just divine, plentiful, with something to suite everyone and tastes that dance on your palate. Champagnes and wines from the local vineyard just enhance the culinary skills of the chef and his team. Attentive and very friendly staff, make your stay feel like your in a home from home, never bothering you but always on hand when required.
As a single player, I found that both members and hotel guests were more than happy to team up to make the round more enjoyable. Maintained to a superb standard the golf course has something to test all levels of golfer.

If we could live there I know we’d die happy!!!! Not that I’d wish that on Catherine and her staff

We are not golfers, but were attracted to Steenberg by its locale, scenery, and food and beverage. We thought it was a lovely property and really enjoyed our time there. The grounds are breathtaking and the staff was outstanding. We enjoyed the wine tasting at Bistro 1682 and loved the sampling of champagnes/sparkling wines at their bubbly bar. Breakfast at Caterina's was sumptuous. We also borrowed the bikes they have available to get some exercise around the grounds.

The location of Steenberg worked really well for us as a base in the Cape area. While it is about a 20-minute drive into the city, it cuts down on the time needed to drive to Cape Point and further to Stellenbosch and beyond.

Our suite was very spacious and comfortable, and décor was a country, traditional style. It was a treat to walk out on the patio and look across the golf course to the mountains. We felt, however, that the layout of the expansive bathroom was a bit odd. Also, certain features of the room could do with a refreshing. Not that we spent much time with the TV on, but it was quite old, and the in-room coffee making set-up could certainly be upgraded. Several other maintenance issues in the room were addressed efficiently.

Nonetheless, these were minor distractions and wouldn't impact our recommending this property.

For the second consecutive year we spent nearly two weeks at the hotel in March 2013. Outstanding location, staff and facilities. Staff are very helpful. I think the golf course is the best in the Cape Town area. Very convenient for the Cape Town area. Will be returning next year.

I have stayed at the Steenberg over the years and believe it to be the finest hotel in Cape Town. The accommodation is Quality, the dining experience is wonderful and it is a place made for relaxation. If you have time it also has a 5 star golf course.

Room Tip: Rooms/Suites are spacious and have a homely feeling
