“Excellence and luxury around every corner”
Reviewed September 20, 2011

We went to Steenberg Hotel for my husband’s birthday weekend, and enjoyed every single moment of the whole weekend there. From the moment we started with our reservations right to the end at check-out, we were treated like gold. We got upgraded to a recently renovated premier room with views over the vineyards. The room itself is huge with an open plan bathroom with a lovely built-in bath with vanities on both sides, a shower and separate toilet cubicle. The room definitely compared to the best of all our previous travels, and is a mixture between modern furnishings and old furniture items. All the furnishing are ultimate luxury and every possible amenity are in the room for you to use. Outside was a patio with a table with 4 chairs and 2 loungers for your personal use.

The hotel grounds with all the old Cape Dutch buildings are absolutely beautiful and serene, except for all the birds constantly making noise. But we enjoyed it. Staff is always friendly and attentive to every need that you have. Requests made from the room were done within seconds. One of the ladies actually arrived out of breath with the items we asked for, and it was literally almost 20 seconds after we phoned.

Breakfast is good with a wide variety to choose from, as well as Steenberg Wine Farm’s bubbly for you to have. My husband had the Cape Malay omelette the first morning, and it was absolutely exquisite. A Cape twist on a modern classic, and it was delicious. The second morning we had room service for breakfast and at the appointed time all items were brought to our room and left for us to enjoy. We loved this as well, and all the food was good, as breakfast can be.

We did eat dinner at Catharina’s restaurant (see separate review) the first evening and at Constantia Uitsig restaurant (see separate review) the following evening.

We also went for the complimentary wine tasting at the estate’s cellar, and enjoyed the wonderful wines there. Steenberg Wine estate does make some of our favourite wines in Constantia.

We also had a 30min back massage and hour facial at the Gingko Spa during our stay, and we loved this. Service and treatments were brilliant. The massage and facial made us completely relaxed and we enjoyed the facilities of the spa completely.

When we checked in we did ask reception if we will be able to check out late, as SA was playing Wales in the RWC, and we wanted to watch the game, but our room was booked for that day, so they arranged and at 10:30 prior to the start of the game, transported us and our luggage to another bigger room, for our use. We could watch the game there, and leave the luggage until we checked out after lunch on the Sunday at Catharina’s again. Brilliant service from the hotel staff and everyone!

We will definitely recommend everyone to stay here. The hotel really deserves its’ accolade.

Whoever is running this hotel knows what they are doing. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left it was outsandingly good. We had a wonderful tastefully furnished room with a view over the golf course to the mountains. Both bedroom (and ensuite) and the sitting room were spacious and comfortable.

We had breakfast lunch and dinner at the hotel and all were excellent with attentive service and great food.

Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit and we are looking forward to returning.

One small negative - why no SuperSports3 on the TV so we can watch Premier league football?

My wife & I recently spent 3 wonderful nights at Steenberg Hotel. We have been fortunate to have stayed in many 5 star hotels, but this one was one of the best. The scenery was magnificent, the room was large & comfortable with a very large bathroom. The verandah over looking the mountains added to the peace & serenity of Steenberg. The restaurant was excellent & we enjoyed our meals there. The spa staff were professional & very good. We most certainly would return there. The location was excellent, far enough to be quiet & peaceful, but near enough to visit Hout Bay & The Water Front in Cape town.

Room Tip: We would request t Palomina Room & would request again. Magnificent view & private verandah

We spent five nights at the world-class Steenberg Hotel to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. It was simply perfection from start to finish! The staff was friendly and incredibly helpful. The food and wine were absolutely delicious. The spa was relaxing. The hotel itself, our room, and the surrounding scenery were exquisite. We loved the beautiful hotel grounds with their combination of classic herb gardens and modern sculptures. We have traveled all over the world and our stay at Steenberg was undoubtedly the best ever! Thank you dear Steenberg.....we hope to be back one day!

Stayed here with a friend on their Wine and Safari package. We both had a great time at the Lodge and the hotel. They are very attentive and are happy to arrange most anything you need. Took a helicopter tour of the cape, and had they arranged to have the chopper land us at the hotel...every amusing. The breakfasts were included and were 5*. Even the airport transfer was perfect, as they arrange all of your bags from room to check-in counter. The property itself is an old estate with a golf course and vinyard. If you are worried about an overly resort atmosphere, dont. It is all very well put together. Oh and while it is outside Cape Town they do offer a decent shuttle service (we just rented a car and that is I would say the better option), But you the views and the quite really make up for it being just outside of town. Believe me you will not be disappointed. And for what they offer I found their prices to be very good.

Our stay was through a LuxuryLink.com package. We are so glad that we decided to stay here, even though it is in the suburbs of Cape Town. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The staff is attentive to your every need. We stayed in a luxury room -Medoc. It was a mini chalet with entry, large sitting area, bedroom and large bath and private patio. We had a bottle of their wine waiting for us in the room. They offer a complimentary 30 minute shuttle each morning into Cape Town at 10:00 and pick you back up at 3:30. Also they will drop off and pick up at any restaurant within 3 miles of the hotel. There is a fabulous selection of some of Cape Town’s top restaurants within this range. But don’t miss eating dinner one evening in their restaurant Catharina’s. You are in for a special treat and wonderful atmosphere. It was an easy drive along the coast and to the Cape of Good Hope from here. Also, don’t miss doing a wine tasting in their tasting room with a tapa’s style bistro. The tasting room has a breath-taking art piece hanging above the bar and beautiful sitting areas with great views. Our tasting was done sitting on a sofa by a fire and each tasting was brought over to us and explained. The Steenberg definitivelyg earns a 5 star rating. We will return!

I stayed here for three days as a precursor to a week in central Cape Town. I have stayed in a similar standard of hotels in SA before so I was not surprised - and certainly not disappointed - by the standards encountered, of welcome, service, food (breakfast and evening dining) and accommodation.
The hotel is some way (20 km) from the airport and a taxi costs ZAR 400.
Nothing seems too much trouble (not that I had any unusual requests)
and the atmoshere was very relaxing, punctuated only by the alarm call of geese in the morning. Free newspapers and free Internet were most welcome although TV was limited, perhaps due to the local conditions: only BBC World and Discovery Channel. Otherwise it was a mixture of SA channels, some of which broadcast only in Xhosa and Afrikaans, of course.
The presentation in the restaurant was of the highest quality (a dish oif lamb, lamb and more lamb from the Karoo stays long in the memory) while the selection of wines from Constantia and other regions included sufficient choice of wines by the glass to complement the menus.
A visit to the Steenberg wine estate was most infiormative, so too the wine tasting, with the chance to buy wines, books and other memorabilia; lunch in the next-door boutique restaurant was very good. The winery is only 5 km from the Atlantic Ocean: this, coupled with the east-facing slopes (less sun) explains the 70/30 white/red split.
The fast-moving cloud provided some dramatic photos, a lasting memory of a wonderful, relaxing stay.

Room Tip: All rooms on ground floor so of equal value.
