Description: Jonkershuis Constantia is nestled in the historic core of the Groot Constantia Wine Estate next to the historic Manor House and surrounded by ancient oak trees. Your first impression is dominated by sweeping views across the oldest wine producing vineyards in South Africa, down the valley to the enveloping coastline of False Bay. This family owned and managed bistro boasts a diversity of locations from private dining grandeur, to intimate interior fire side dining, to typical Italian village gatherings in their vine covered courtyard to family style lunches on their front lawns, were children can safely play reminiscent of a bygone era.. Partner Chris Coetzee, a father of two energetic young sons says, "Our close proximity and strong association with Iziko Museums is very important to me, it is a privilege for my children to be raised surrounded by so much of their heritage." The rich cultural history of Jonkershuis lends a magical and old world charm to any occasion held at the beautiful Jonkershuis. Tammy Botbyl (partner), "The strong legacy of history and tradition has inspired many couples to share their vows here and celebrate their union in style. It is a privilege for us to be part of the beginning of so many new legacies."

Jonkershuis is for food and nature lovers. It is a wonderful place where you can eat great food and marvellous wine. You can enjoy a spectacular view of the vineyard and the beautiful scenery of Constantia. We had the best experience there.

We arrived at Jonkershuis just after 5pm. We only wanted to drink a glass of wine. We sat down at a table that did not have a reserved sign on. After 10 minutes my friend got up and asked the hostess if we could be served. She refused and said the entire area was reserved. We said we'll leave as soon as the people arrived and eventually she offered to seat us somewhere else but was very unfriendly. All the waiters glared at us and after several minutes not one of them asked for our order. Eventually we walked into the restaurant and asked the manager if we could please have two glasses of wine. He gladly served us and we had our wine within two minutes. We wandered around the estate drinking wine and when we eventually headed back to the restaurant with our empty glasses around 7:30pm, every single one of those reserved tables were still empty. So the conclusion is that this restaurant is not interested in making any money....

Constantia is full of excellent places, the Jonkershuis being one of them. We had dinner on a cold evening in March and everything was perfect. The waiter suggested to share the sample plate (bobotie, lamb and chicken) and it was a great idea. Kudu carpaccio as a starter, milktart as dessert and nice wines to accompany everything. A wonderful evening

Dining in the shade of old oak trees on a hot afternoon with a gentle breeze overlooking the Constantia valley is one of life’s finest experiences. Even in winter I inagine it would be fun.

The South African traditional cooking was flavorful and we can reccmmend the babotie. Paired with Estate wines it makes for a satisfying experience.

And its on the bus routes. Do visit
