Description: Jonkershuis Constantia is nestled in the historic core of the Groot Constantia Wine Estate next to the historic Manor House and surrounded by ancient oak trees. Your first impression is dominated by sweeping views across the oldest wine producing vineyards in South Africa, down the valley to the enveloping coastline of False Bay. This family owned and managed bistro boasts a diversity of locations from private dining grandeur, to intimate interior fire side dining, to typical Italian village gatherings in their vine covered courtyard to family style lunches on their front lawns, were children can safely play reminiscent of a bygone era.. Partner Chris Coetzee, a father of two energetic young sons says, "Our close proximity and strong association with Iziko Museums is very important to me, it is a privilege for my children to be raised surrounded by so much of their heritage." The rich cultural history of Jonkershuis lends a magical and old world charm to any occasion held at the beautiful Jonkershuis. Tammy Botbyl (partner), "The strong legacy of history and tradition has inspired many couples to share their vows here and celebrate their union in style. It is a privilege for us to be part of the beginning of so many new legacies."

We'd been wine tasting at the bottom of the estate and were actually on our way to Simons restaurant at the top of the estate, but a little on the early side for dinner. We therefore ended up at Jonkershuis on the way past, with the intention of having a drink, but having read the menu, decided to eat there instead.

Overall, the meal was pleasant enough. No complaints. Competent without being exceptional. Not bad. Not great.

The beef samoosas starters were good and the bobotie was tasty enough. Nothing earth shattering about it. My companions had a linguine dish, the curry taster plate and the vegetable curry. All good enough, but nobody shouting "wow".

It's possibly on my restaurant options list for a future visit to Cape Town, but not at the top of the list. Simons is the better of the two restaurants, in my opinion.

We had a great meal late in the day (they will take u anytime which is great). Friendly efficient service - great food selection and great ambiance. The weather wasnt great for us but the courtyard and tables outside looked great for a sunny day. Make sure u try the Gouverneurs Reserve (Red). A lovely bordeaux style red and their premium wine - as usual for Sth African wineries it seems amazing value at around $20 per bottle. We took a magnum home for a bbq the next day - why not at these prices!

We celebrated my daughter's birthday here, and they really did go out of their way to make it special and to fulfill our expectations. The fillet was perfectly cooked and the food was so tasty - I can't say anything negative about the experience. We also had a great waiter who was very kind and professional.

Although the tables and chairs are simple, the food is very good. I had the Tiger Prawns with delicious rice. The Malayan tasting platter was also very good and nicely presented. Enjoy the view! Disappointing was the fact that on the wine list it says you can order the Chardonnay Constantia ( there own wine!) by the glass but that was not possible, only by the bottle, therefore we ordered another chardonnay.
Later we tasted the Constantia Chardonnay with the wine tasting and it is very very nice.
Beautiful place for a lunch.

I must say that is the best restaurant around constantia...it has two rooms and we decided to take a sit on the right one which was not so busy as the left one. A very kind waiter approached us and showed the black board where today's special three course meal was written. We got in the place and asked for a bottle of pinotage constantia wine. Orderd a bruscette and a chicken/avocando ceasar style salad with mayo dressing for starters really good choice and then for main course i had a crispy panned chicken(cant remember the exact name) which was excellent. For dessert i had chocolate cake with ice-cream which was also good. The bill afterwards was not what we expected...really good value for money!
