Description: Jonkershuis Constantia is nestled in the historic core of the Groot Constantia Wine Estate next to the historic Manor House and surrounded by ancient oak trees. Your first impression is dominated by sweeping views across the oldest wine producing vineyards in South Africa, down the valley to the enveloping coastline of False Bay. This family owned and managed bistro boasts a diversity of locations from private dining grandeur, to intimate interior fire side dining, to typical Italian village gatherings in their vine covered courtyard to family style lunches on their front lawns, were children can safely play reminiscent of a bygone era.. Partner Chris Coetzee, a father of two energetic young sons says, "Our close proximity and strong association with Iziko Museums is very important to me, it is a privilege for my children to be raised surrounded by so much of their heritage." The rich cultural history of Jonkershuis lends a magical and old world charm to any occasion held at the beautiful Jonkershuis. Tammy Botbyl (partner), "The strong legacy of history and tradition has inspired many couples to share their vows here and celebrate their union in style. It is a privilege for us to be part of the beginning of so many new legacies."

“If you like Cape Malay food, this is for you!”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

We ate inside the restaurant in this thatched historic building. Unfussy period decor, white linen, and a relaxed atmosphere suited it well. The restaurant specialises in Cape Malay and Afrikaans food so for main course we selected the tasting plate of three different Cape Malay favourites with sambals and side dishes. (A big meal; we should have avoided a starter!) The bobotie was superb and the two curries were yummy. All of the famous Groot Constantia wines were available by the 250ml glass without a by-the-glass mark-up which was a nice touch. A memorable evening and very good value for money.

“not meeting my expectations”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

situated on a beautiful vineyard, a park with lots of old trees , a manor and a littl museum, this is what you find at groot constantia and it surely is promising that their restaurant is as good as their plot.
the food is just poor, overcooked and heaped onto your plate - i udnerstand that typical afrikaans cuisine is rich, yes and i do not mind, but that was not good at all, nothing.
sorry, but avoid if possible!

“Nice meal in relaxed surroundings”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

We ate in the courtyard. It was nice and cool with good shade. We had a lovely lunch. Food was good and simple which was exactly what we wanted. Staff were helpful and attentive.

If you can it is probably better to sit outside where the view is better.

“This is a very pleasant venue”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

Although we did not make a booking for breakfast on Boxing Day, we were quickly shown to a table inside. The food and very pleasant staff made up for the lack of view which we enjoyed after breakfast with a walk around the grounds. Relaxing and beautiful location.
