Description: Jonkershuis Constantia is nestled in the historic core of the Groot Constantia Wine Estate next to the historic Manor House and surrounded by ancient oak trees. Your first impression is dominated by sweeping views across the oldest wine producing vineyards in South Africa, down the valley to the enveloping coastline of False Bay. This family owned and managed bistro boasts a diversity of locations from private dining grandeur, to intimate interior fire side dining, to typical Italian village gatherings in their vine covered courtyard to family style lunches on their front lawns, were children can safely play reminiscent of a bygone era.. Partner Chris Coetzee, a father of two energetic young sons says, "Our close proximity and strong association with Iziko Museums is very important to me, it is a privilege for my children to be raised surrounded by so much of their heritage." The rich cultural history of Jonkershuis lends a magical and old world charm to any occasion held at the beautiful Jonkershuis. Tammy Botbyl (partner), "The strong legacy of history and tradition has inspired many couples to share their vows here and celebrate their union in style. It is a privilege for us to be part of the beginning of so many new legacies."

“Wonderful meal, great atmosphere”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

Fortunately our tour guide had made a reservation as the restaurant was full. We were seated promptly and really enjoyed the historic atmosphere (The Groot Constantia Estate dates all the way back to 1685!). Our family of six included our 11 year-old granddaughter. The menu was terrific and I can still remember the delicious French Onion Soup that I enjoyed. The service was very good and over-all this was just about the best meal we had during our 25 day trip to South Africa - and that includes many really good meals.

“Unexpected gem”
Reviewed July 5, 2012

We visited Groot Constantia last weekend for some wine tasting and decided to have lunch here at Jonkershuis restaurant.

All i can say is that we were blown away by the excellent food and the great service.

We were not that hungry and only had the tomato, red pepper and pesto crouton soup but it was simply divine! The Groot Constantia Rose is had with the soup was also very very good.

They have a lovey fireplace going in winter that is a bonus. The restaurant is set in a very old building full of character.

Highly recommended.

“great Cape Malay food”
Reviewed June 6, 2012

Set in the splendour of the oldest wine estate in South Africa with its beautiful Cape Dutch architecture, another visit to Jonkershuis was a pleasure. The ambience is unique, the service friendly and attentive. While the menu has a wide range and the wine list good, if you're after traditional Cape Malay food, then this is the place.

“Rustic setting for lunch or dinner”
Reviewed March 30, 2012

Casual dining restaurant on Groot Constantia wine estate – set in old stables (the name gives it away!) We had lunch and dinner on the same day here (don’t ask!).

Lunch was al fresco, under the trees, looking out over False Bay in the distance. Can’t fault the setting, and the food was good for a snack lunch, if a little slow to arrive.

Dinner was indoors in the somewhat rustic setting of the ex-stables. Absolutely fine for a casual evening; restaurant was busy, with a bit of vibe, good service and wholesome food.

Recommended and we will visit again.
