Description: Jonkershuis Constantia is nestled in the historic core of the Groot Constantia Wine Estate next to the historic Manor House and surrounded by ancient oak trees. Your first impression is dominated by sweeping views across the oldest wine producing vineyards in South Africa, down the valley to the enveloping coastline of False Bay. This family owned and managed bistro boasts a diversity of locations from private dining grandeur, to intimate interior fire side dining, to typical Italian village gatherings in their vine covered courtyard to family style lunches on their front lawns, were children can safely play reminiscent of a bygone era.. Partner Chris Coetzee, a father of two energetic young sons says, "Our close proximity and strong association with Iziko Museums is very important to me, it is a privilege for my children to be raised surrounded by so much of their heritage." The rich cultural history of Jonkershuis lends a magical and old world charm to any occasion held at the beautiful Jonkershuis. Tammy Botbyl (partner), "The strong legacy of history and tradition has inspired many couples to share their vows here and celebrate their union in style. It is a privilege for us to be part of the beginning of so many new legacies."

“Worth visiting for the view but a little frustrating”
Reviewed March 15, 2012

But the food is nothing special. So on a sunny day, when you want to enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the sea then give it a go. If you want a foodie experience go somewhere else, there are plenty better in the area. The curry type food is better but not really what I want at lunchtime on a hot day. Our bread was also a little stale.

A pity really as its a missed opportunity. It is by no means bad and I will continue to visit on a sunny day, but if only the could crank e food up a notch, then it would be wonderful.

“Good food, great setting”
Reviewed March 3, 2012

Jonkershuis is part of the Groot Constantia wine complex, which itself is part of the greater Constantia (town) wine cluster of vineyards. The grounds are a wonderful setting and we ate outdoors which was very pleasant. The food was very good and the service was good as was the wine, although when price is taken into account the wine is overpriced (or many other wines we had in South Africa are underpriced).

“Beautiful setting for a chilled out light lunch”
Reviewed February 29, 2012

Convenienty situated outside the cellars and perfect to absorb some of the alcohol from the tasting sessions! Fast service and option to sit outside with a lovely view of the vines and the mountains.
Not great for pushchairs though as the path ways are quite rough.

“Relaxed, classy and excellently located”
Reviewed February 18, 2012

The venue is beautiful, the view of vineyards sloping to the sea is probably its best feature. The food is very good with several options and so is the wine list. An excellent place to relax during a long lunch.

“Beautiful location , service very average, food good”

Been here a few times, service is very poor with mistakes on most orders and generally unattentive. Food good. Great location. Reasonably priced.
