We went there for a special lunch. There was nobody to welcome us. Finally we went to the back- a cold atmosphere less space. We were the only people for an hour.

Food was generally confused. Sooo many elements on each plate for all three courses. Really did not enjoy any of them because of the mixture of flavours that really did not work.

Old fashioned lots of stuff on the plate.

We wanted to have desert in the sun. We hardly had it served when we had the cushions removed and were hurried to leave. The place closed at 3

Shocked tourists.
The staff generally were brusque, unfriendly , unhelpful and we felt unwelcome.
I have no idea why people go there. It is very expensive. Much better value on the Atlantic seaboard which is sunnier and Peopke more helpful and friendly.

A wonderful surprise in setting and comfort. A venue long forgotten by locals with excellent views of vineyards and classic architecture. A treasure. Friendly service with generous and quality wine tasting. Our food was good value, yummy and in the range of all pocket books.

The pathway is over hung with a breath-taking canopy of trees as we meander down the driveway to an evening filled with so much hope, passion and appreciation for love and faith. Buitenverwachting Wine Farm is gazing majestically at us from all sides, enchanting their new guests … seeing their eyes wonder over beauty.
Yes, once again they have done their job, and its just the beginning, they know this …
A sense of warmth and welcomed invitation as you appear around the bend to the restaurant. It’s a stormy day in the Mother City, and an evening of this calibre cannot be spent any way more appropriately.
Arriving in the courtyard, its smart and elegant yet comforting and immediately puts you at ease.
The elegance of the restaurant in its natural and gold tones, its warmth with luxurious seating and the smiling hospitality of the staff as if you were an age old friend.
Welcomed into the sitting area, a smooth pastel pinky red sherry warms the evening to a great start.
Comfort and elegance.
With love from the chef … a welcome aperitif, every bite a taste sensation, goose bumps run down my arms. Choosing with one was better than the last, clearly impossible
Our table is perfect, overlooking the courtyard, picturing summer days outside and wine tasting or warm winter days inside watching the weather, all with great company.
The chef is amazing, another surprise … we could get used to this ;-)
Each mouthful from starters through to the main meal holds nothing less than an ‘eye closing experience’, the starters provide a gift of taste and freshness, not only in appearance but the idea of a meal that encapsulates your sense. Simply Heaven on earth!
The bubbly is going down very well, smooth yet dry with a hint of sweet.
Three hours and its we realise this too must come to an end, an amazing experience, great conversation and a cup of coffee and Kalua Coffee to bid farewell …
Trying to hold it together throughout the night … its been a really special and magical night.
Our host arrives with a special and magical gift from Buitverwachting again … an Anniversary cake. Speechless and trying not to tear up from how perfect this evening has been, and so grateful for everything worth having to live this life to the fullest. Thank you so much Buitenverwachting, we love you!

By far this is one of the best restaurants in the Cape Town area. The view from the restaurant is stunning, the food is greatly presented and very tasty, the wines offered are great. The staff are friendly and professional. I have had lunch on two occasions and will be returning every time I visit Cape Town. Highly recommend to people who value good gourmet experience.

Our UK friends took us there (on our recommendation) as a farewell treat. The food and wine was very good. The service, however, was disappointingly average.
Back home, they mentioned that, though dinner was nice, it was as expensive as in the UK! Further investigation revealed that we were billed for 5 bottles of wine instead of 4 glasses and one bottle.
Despite taking up this matter with the management.... by fax (the bill) and telephone, no response was forthcoming...very disappointing.

Dear Dawie,
Thank you for the compliment about our food & wine.
I am hugely disappointed with my service & what happened with your billing.
No Fax or Telephone message was ever forwarded to me.
I m horrified about the billing & currently investigating what happened, because that never happened before at our restaurant.
The problem I have, is that I can’t find a reservation under the name of Dawie d.
Please urgently contact me directly on my e-mail address kitchen@buitenverwachting.com
Kind regards
