“Historic location”

The food was superb, and of course the wine list matched. The setting is hard to beat. An historic wine farm, with spectacular, sweeping views, made it an unforgettable experience.

“Casual, Inviting atmosphere with nice menu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

Our group of six ate dinner at Simon's after a tour of Groot Constantia. There was only one other large group and a few scattered tables of diners that evening, and it made for a pleasant evening warmed by the large fireplace. The service was excellent and the menu had many good appetizer and entree choices. The bouillabaisse was popular at our table, and for good reason. Not only was the seafood tasty, but the base was so good that we used our bread to finish it off the bowls.

I ordered the spicy grilled prawns for my entree, and the chef accommodated my request that they be served without the shells. The prawns were very good and quite spicy. My husband ordered the Kingclip fish entree, and was disappointed. Kingclip is a mild, white fish, but served without seasoning, it has very little flavor.

Simon's has a really nice bar area with some outdoor seating. In better weather, that would have been a nice place to enjoy a meal or a drink. We enjoyed meeting the feline bar resident, Simon! (see photo)

“Great location - seems not to be doing too well”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2012

It is a pity that on the past few Friday nights that we have been to Simons that there have been hardly any people there. Generally the food is decent and it is a great location for informal dining. Summer Fridays can also have live music on the terrace.

“Perfect setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2012

If you want to impress, enjoy,be pampered and really enjoy a great eating experience Simon's at Groot Constantia is the place for you.The setting within the grounds of Groot Constantia is just wonderful surrounded by the vines of the first winery in the Cape Colony with the slopes rising up to Constantia Berg the resturant just oozes fine dining. The staff mostly young students are very willing to please and bring a youthful freshness to the experience.A fine selection of meats, fish and game is on the menu with some desserts to die for.Dispite it's setting and history prices are reasonable and naturaly the wine list is very good at sensible pricing. The only way to appreciate this haven is go there for lunch sit at one of the many shaded outside tables and soak up the atmosphere.

“Awsome lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2012

My first time customer, very impressed with the location & setting, had a great meal of starters, main & dessert. I had good duck - big portion. My husband & grandchild enjoyed the prawn starter, once again big portion. The service a bit on the slow side. Overall a good meal.
