“Little hidden gem”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

Friends recommended this restaurant and we were pleasantly impressed with the good service and quality of food. The calamari was very well prepared and tasty and the pizzas were good. The service was outstanding - all this at a reasonable price with an amazing view of Noordhoek beach. We will definetly be back.

“Like a tropical getaway”
Reviewed October 28, 2013 via mobile

This is the place to go for a romantic time out.The view is spectacular and the food is unpretentious and so affordable. Our waiter was really friendly and went the extra mile for us.The whole place lights up at night with candles everywhere and fairylights in the trees.Absolutely loved it!

“VIEWS & DINNER TO DIE FOR”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

We recently visited Thorfynns Restaurant after not having gone there for a long time and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and excellent staff. The setting is particularly romantic as the views from the restaurant are overlooking Noordhoek beach and the amazing sunsets. It certainly is a restaurant well worth visiting for Romantic dinners such as Anniversaries etc. We both ordered the Fillet and it was absolutely mouthwatering, as were the veggies served with it. The Restaurant is part of the very beautiful Monkey Valley Resort high up on the hill with individual wooden chalets, set in the beautiful milkwood trees. All in all a very special place. The only slight disappointment is the rather unattractive bar area. It would be pleasant to sit and enjoy a drink before going in to dinner, but otherwise the restaurant itself is lovely.

“Dinner with yet another view”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

We've had so many meals while looking at stunning scenery here in South Africa that there seems a danger of getting jaded. But Thorfynns Restaurant at the Monkey Valley Resort can compete with the best. We arrived while the sun was still up and had booked a table out on the deck. The menu looked good, our waiter (think he had a grander title actually) recommended the tapas starter to share (olives, manchego, meatballs, prawns and chorizo) and the fillet steak, which three of us went along with while J had the fish combo. it was all yummy and the portions so generous that we requested a doggy bag for the steaks (great pepper sauce) which were enough for tomorrow's lunch for our Fish Hoek friends. Meanwhile the skies had reddened over Noordhoek Beach (surely one of the most gorgeous in the world for dogs, walking and riding) and we could see the lighthouse flashing in the distance as the sun went down. Heavenly.

“Stunning view, great ambience, good food”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

We invited some friends to join us on 30 Dec at Thorfynns.
The negatives:
- The manager on duty seemed hassled and was rather grumpy and unfriendly.
- They'd run out of a surprising number of seemingly basic ingredients like mushrooms and bacon. (I'd have thought an enterprising manager would have gone out to the supermarket to buy whatever was necessary.)

The positives:
- The food was fine and relatively inexpensive
- The view and ambience were great

We'll forgive the manager on duty (perhaps he was tired from the hectic holiday season) - our waitress was friendly and obliging.

We'll be back and I'd recommend it - more than anything for the amazing view.

Hints: make a booking and ask for an outside table, unless the wind is very strong. But the views from the indoor tables near the windows also looked pretty good.
