“Love the zappy service and fantastic fresh food”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

I've always been a bit snooty of eating here , put off by its mall location and the queue to get in , so far this year I've been 5 times and can't fault it , its wonderful to sit at the kitchen section and see the tempura being made , there are a few Nobu inspired choices but not at Nobu prices and they are open for lunch. The staff are great and charismatic , just get there early so you don't have to queue, And a great deli too.

“Sushi worth the trip every time”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

My wife and I will visit Willoughby's at least once on every Cape Town visit. While it may not equal eating sushi in Tokyo or Kyoto...it's definitely one of the best outside of Japan.

The sushi is alway fresh and a great wine list accompanies the meal. While having such a fine restaurant in the middle of a mall is a bit odd, eating inside at the bar or one of the tall tables is always a great afternoon lunch. Service is always great and the people watching isn't bad either. Waits can be a long at times, but the food is always worth the wait.

A Cape Town must do!

“Oh what gorgeous food!”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

Friends in Cape Town met us for lunch here and we just kept coming back, the Fried Rock Shrimp is just so so good, the service is incredible for such a busy restaurant and the owner and staff so friendly and really go that extra mile. Big thanks to Mary for introducing us to this place, the staff all know Mary!

“Fishy”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

Well that's what they're known for! Despite this we ordered a selection of sushi, tempura, clam chowder, and chicken yakiudon. All were good, but didn't quite live up to its reputation of being amazing, and the restaurant was packed. We found the sashimi were cut a bit thick, but still tasty, tempura was good, clam chowder not quite the West Coast clam chowder I expected (being from Western Canada which has amazing seafood chowders) and the chicken yakiudon was a bit....westernized. Nonetheless, it was all fairly priced, it was just a bit bizarre being in the middle of a mall.

Another somewhat off-putting thing was the staff swearing at each other in the kitchen, we were seated counter facing the open plan kitchen and next to the door to the internal kitchen and could hear everything...

“best sushi in town”
Reviewed February 28, 2014

Ten visits to cape town and never been here but a south African friend swears by it so we paid it a visit. Now we know what we were missing. Great food, lovely presentation, fine wines and helpful staff. A must place for fresh sushi.
