Unfortunately there was no room in the main building so I had to stay across the road in the blue house. The room was claustrophobic small. I could not raise the Venetian blinds although the view was not very interesting, just a covered back yard. No air conditioning, just a fan by the door. No soap in the shower, the hot water tap in the sink just drizzled. No phone. Extra Internet charges. The only positive was the very good breakfast. If this is a four star guest house, then the have included the three stars from the Cognac bottle.

Room Tip: Make sure you stay in the main building !!!!

SweetestGuesthouses, Manager at Sweet Ocean View Guesthouse, responded to this reviewResponded March 20, 2012

We thank the traveler for his review and we would like to respond as follows:
It is true, that our Sweet Ocean View Guesthouse consists of the main building as well as three exclusive Private Units which we call the “Victorian Houses”. They are located right across the main building. Each Victorian House offers the same standard as the main building - even better.
The standard rooms are smaller than the superior rooms, but they offer always a different feature. With this particular room the room offers direct access to the back area, were a cozy sitting area is located as well 2 sun loungers to rest.
As the reviewer was travelling with a group and the majority of the group was accommodated at the main building, we offered him a room in the main building after the first night. We had to assume that everything was in order, due to the fact that we neither receive an answer from the tour guide nor from the guest himself. Unfortunately the guest didn’t mention the broken blinds and the water tap, which would have been fixed immediately by our maintenance team. We are a bit surprised about the comment of missing soap in the bathrooms as we do have fixed dispenser with 2 in 1 combination in the shower as well as at the sink.
It is regrettable that the guest neither made use of the offer to move to the main building, nor approached us directly with his concerns.

We booked two days at Sweet Lemon, and wanted to stay an extra day, so they upgraded us to Ocean view for the same price! Loved this room! Adorably decorated! Want to decorate my house this way. The service was great, we didn't get in til midnight, but they were happy to help us out. The location is great, right close to everything, a few streets off the main coast road. Really loved this place.

We recently (Beginning of Dec) stayed a little more than a week in one of the little victorian guesthouses of the sweet icean view. We shared the house that has two bedrooms and two bathrooms with friends and it was an absolute cool experience. The guesthouse is just beautiful and sweet and ideal for a vacation with friends or a family. The rooms are nice and comfortable and also kind of cosy...the "feeling at home away from home" feeling. Also the little backgarden was really nice.

The breakfast we had every morning in the guesthosue across the street was really plentyful and divers and you had the chance to exchange with other travellers. You could also get very good tips from Maggie, the owener and she also booked some things for us like the trip to Robben Island.

The location is Cape Town is very good, in a very nice area with great views and you are at the Beaches in just a couple of minutes (driving) and can reach some very nice restaurants by just walking there.

Overall a really pleasant stay with nothing to complain about

Room Tip: Should choose one if the Victorian Houses

The hotel is really nice with comfortable gust houses across the street (with2-3 bedrooms, living room and kitchen) for families. Good and calm neighborhood and you can walk to restaurants at night. Great breakfast where you meet other guests and share tips on what to see in Cape Town. 5 minutes walk to the hop-on/hop-off buses to see CT.

My husband and I stayed in in February 2011. The guest house consisted of maybe 4 bedrooms with private balconies/verandahs and our guestrooms was decorated in a beautiful and unique manner, with African masks and geckos on the walls and hide rugs on the floor; the bathroom was huge and fabulous with shellacked brickwork and a rainfall shower head. The property served a fabulous breakfast for an additional charge, there was a roof top hot tub (you need to tell them 24 hours in advance if you want to use the hot tub!) and an honour bar stocked with Cape Province wines (wonderful!) I was a bit put out coming back to our room early to find a kitchen staff member lounging on our patio, but we did not complain. Tours can be arranged from here - we took the wine tour and the Cape Peninsula tour and also went up Table Mountain - we had a very full two days! Sweet Oceans also owns several self contained guest houses which also looked very beautiful. Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman stayed at the same guesthouse we did while they were in South Africa filming Invictus. I figure if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me! We loved it, and have given my brother and his wife a weekend there as a present.
