Situated in the heart of Cape Town, down a pedestrian walkway, is the entrance to this quaint Kurdish restaurant. Up a flight of wooden stairs you are greated by the wonderful smells of middle eastern foods and the sounds of Kurdish music. We were greated by the owner Baran, who offered us either a traditional brass table or to be seated on cushions in an authentic mediteranian style. The ambiance and the decorations seem genuine authentic middle eastern adding to the ambiance. Besides choices of many Kurdish starters and main courses, we rounded off our evening with a Kurdish coffee and a wonderful display of belly dancing. Sitting close to your neigbours in such a relaxed atmosphere allowed us to make new freinds and learn about other cultures. We were'nt banking on such a varied evening out, which made it more special.

Wow, what a place: The only Kurdish restaurant in South Africa. They serve the best in Kurdish dishes! A must for the lovers of Middle Eastern food. The location is rather dark, but with its interior you feel like being somewhere in Kurdistan and not in the Mother City! It was our first time there and we tasted the menu as proposed by the waiter....a treat!!!! Later the food was even topped by a belly dancer from the region (not some local from the gym next door...;-)) - the real thing again. An affordable trip to Kurdistan for you and me. We will be back!

We arrived for our reservation with a 2003 pinotage and where told you don't allow corkage. So that's all fine they asked us to leave it at the bar. When we where leaving I went to pick it up and saw that the top had been removed and the the cork had a hole in it (like a cork screw had been pushed in). I complained to the barmen and he said he accidentally opened it but luckily not all the way. Then on sat morning the wine is on the kitchen table and I look at it and the level is almost 2cm under the plastic? Surely you would inform your customer if you 'accidentally' open their wine. He said he thought it was one of their wines, I really dont see how you could confuse your house wine by the glass with an authentic french label? So what it looks like is your staff decided to open my bottle of wine and taste it and then push the cork back in.

The atmosphere in Mesopotamia is great. you sit on pillows on the floor and eat off of small brass tables. They had belly dancers come out and dance every half hour or so. We got the sampler deal and it was quite good and gave an idea of multiple kinds of Kurdish cuisine. nice find right off Long Street

Try meze dish and nan bread to share. Note that if there's belly dancer, they'll will add the cost for the entertainment automatically to your bill - even if you don't want to see the performance or leave in the middle of it. But the atmosphere is unique and you'll relax as soon as you'll get your shoes off and seat down on the floor cushions. Great place to eat with a couple of friends.
