For those who love seafood this is a great restaurant with lovely views however it is so big it lacks any kind of 'intimacy' if you are looking to have a romantic meal. The service was excellent - always someone on hand to make sure your glass was full and the waiter was very helpful in helping us choose what we were going to eat. Our 2nd time here and would go back again ;)

We were only in Capetown for 4 nights, and again at the end of our 3 week tour for one last night. We just had to go back again for the Langoustines at Baia on the Waterfront, they were the tastiest I had ever had in my life, and such great value! The service is outstanding and the staff really go out of their way to make your visit a memorable one.

Baia was strongly recommended to me by a friend who lives in Cape Town. We went with high hopes and the evening started well; extremely friendly staff who were very willing to help. Unfortunately it seemed as though they were working on commission to sell the seafood platter - this was mentioned to us repeatedly by a few different members of staff.
Eventually I chose the duck and my boyfriend a 900g lobster. Mine arrived first and I was immediately disappointed; the duck was very, very tough and difficult to cut with a regular knife. The lobster followed and was an even bigger disappointment. The lobster meat itself had been scraped out, mixed in with a creamy mushroom sauce and put back into the shell. There was no mention of the sauce on the menu and my boyfriend cannot stand mushrooms. The meat left in the sauce was few and far between, giving the impression much of the meat had been removed and added to other dishes. To back this up, many of the legs had also been removed so even this flesh was not available.
We mentioned our disappointment with the lobster to the waiter who apologised that we felt that way, however nothing was done. When paying the bill we explained to the waiter that although he himself had been excellent we did not feel happy leaving a tip due to the disappointing experience. Sadly the waiter lost the friendly attitude immediately and we left extremely disheartened.

I guess you shouldn't lose sight of the location of this restaurant in an "upscale" shopping mall, but with a very pleasant view.

As i said above, you simply could not fault the food. Our shrimp starters and the Kingclip fish served with Chorizo was very good and washed down with a very nice wine.

It just kind of lacked any warmth or ambience, but it is quite a large restaurant.

Personally, i thought that the bill was reasonable for what we had.

Huge 400+ seater restaurant which was full & busy, thus suffered in regards to service, food quality etc - thus over-priced & forgettable unfortunately. Have had much better experiences on previous occassions though, so maybe just a bad night?
