We stayed at the Derwent House for one week this month and absolutely loved our stay. Carol, the owner was so helpful in both arranging our stay, but also advising us on day tours (shark cage diving, Cape tour and Robben Island) and orienting us to the city. She also arranged airport pickup and return. Although we didn't actually get to meet her (she was about to deliver her baby), we felt her presence in every detail she created in the main house and the apartment (where we stayed).

Vuyo, the manager, was extremely helpful, friendly and we loved talking with her every day of our visit. The entire staff was a delight to interact with. As I mentioned, we stayed in the apartment behind the main house, because we needed an extra bed, since we were traveling with our 22 year old daughter. Vuyo invited us to spend as much time as we liked at the main house, sitting in the beautiful living room, drinking the tea, coffee and tasting the brusk and other cookies - all available 24 hours a day. At 4PM everyday there is fresh baked bread or cake available. There is wine to taste and a refrigerator filled with beverages as part of their honest bar (just mark down what you drink). And they have a beautiful pool area in the back of the main building beautifully designed and decorated.

Our daughter also loved the whole experience as well, especially the neighborhood (which reminded us all of San Francisco, where we live). The apartment was also very nicely decorated, the bed was extremely comfortable, both a toilet/sink and shower/sink/bath rooms. A large TV with DVD player, a fully equipped kitchen, a welcome basket with fruit, breads, cheeses and wine. The main house had a full selection of DVDs to choose from, and wifi service in all areas. The apartment even had a cell phone to use to call the main house, taxi or make restaurant reservations. We had everything we needed and felt very safe and comfortable.

Because we had our own kitchen, we picked up breakfast items a the supermarket around the corner on Kloof St (Checkers) and made our own breakfast each morning. But one morning, we experienced the breakfast at the main house, which was absolutely delicious. All kinds of fresh fruit, cereals, breads, and a hot course made to order.

The main house was impeccably decorated with art from South Africa, including some pieces from Mandela (a speech, hand prints). The living room had a fireplace, comfy couches and sofas, lots of books to read about South Africa, incredible art and a very welcoming atmosphere. The neighborhood was also very cool. When you walk out the front door you see views of Table Mountain and Lions Peak. The hotel is located in the very cool neighborhood between the Garden and Tamboerskloof districts of Cape Town. Lots of cool restaurants and shops and very safe. We walked each night to restaurants (Cafe Paradiso, Millers Thumb, Bombay Bicycle Club) and you can actually walk to the downtown area of Cape Town (and the waterfront if you are really ambitious). It is also a very easy walk to many of the main museums in the city.

It was one of our most favorite places to stay. We will definitely return to Derwent House for our next stay in Cape Town.

My girls and I and their grandmother stayed at the Derwent House for 4 nights in July 2014. We stayed in the family suite in the main house and it was just perfect! Everyone was so nice and Vuyo definitely went out of her way to recommend places to eat and things to do. We had an amazing time! Fabulous breakfast, great atmosphere! We truly felt like family when we were here! Would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Family suite was perfect for the 4 of us!

My husband and I stayed at the Derwent House for 4 nights in early June while travelling in advance of Comrades. We absolutely enjoyed our first experience in South Africa. Vuyo went out of our way to help us with our stay including suggestions for outings such as Robben Island and Cape of Good hope and the best places to run. We felt safe and loved the little things such as the all hours coffee station and quite living room where we could read by the fire. Every little detail was thought of - heated towel rack, cell phone for us to use etc.. We would definitely stay again.

My husband, my teenage son and i stayed at this gorgeous boutique hotel for 4 nights in July 2014. We stayed in the Family Suite and it was perfect for our family The staff especially Dene and Timothy were incredible and went out of their call of duty to help in every way imaginable. While the location was the initial attraction, we fell in love with the staff and the little thoughtful touches eg use of mobile phone/ complimentary cake and coffee in the evenings and complimentary sherry and port by the fireplace. And of course the breakfast which was to die for !!

We stayed at the Derwent for 3 nights at the end of June. We were travelling as a family of 4 so we booked the apartment which could fit us all in. It was perfect - enough space for us all and right next to the hotel itself which is a gorgeous. - Absolutely delicious breakfasts, a lovely lounge area, and the boys had a wonderful time in the spa. The staff were incredibly helpful in suggesting where to go for dinner and making bookings on our behalf. Our whole stay couldn't have been better. Thank you.

We stayed at the Derwent's apartment for 6 nights in July and loved it. The staff went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed and we're so helpful in booking excursions, dinners, taxis, etc. The apartment itself is quite nice and not in a dodgy building as another review had stated. We loved having the space to spread out, cook if we wished (although we ate out more often then not), and enjoy a DVD in the evening. We booked the unit as we feared bad weather in July, but the skies were sunny so we weren't there very often. It's a great property in a perfect location and we're so glad we chose to stay there!

Having stayed at Derwent house on several occasion I knew wanted my girlfriend to experience this wonderfull hotel. I let them know that the two of us would be coming for a. Romantic stay and the staff were so helpfull in suggesting venues and even helped with booking and information to ensure we had a memorable stay.
The rooms and accommodation is beautiful, you just feel at home straight away. The hotel is also situated within a two minute walk of some of the best dinning venues Cape Town has to offer.
Thanks so much to all the staff for the helpful friendly service, look forward to returning very soon.

At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself.
