“We felt like we were at home”
Reviewed May 2, 2012

Jo, Carol and the staff treated us like we were at home. The staff was ready to help us find restraints, taxie and so much more. The rooms were great, breakfast was the best my favorite was Jo's omelet . The home was beautifully decorated and we felt so comfortable. We spent 5 wonderful days.

WE WILL BE BACK.

Room Tip: My room faced table mountain, the view was great. Each room seemed to have it's own personality...

It is hard to add anything to the many glowing reports that appear on TA. We booked because of them and were not disappointed. It really does feel like a home-from-home; nothing is too much trouble for the team. The proximity to Kloof Street with its many good restaurants is a bonus, because one doesn't always want to go right down into town.Being able to see Table Mountain from the rooms means one knows straight away if it is open.Really first-class breakfasts (e.g.fabulous Bircher Muesli), well-priced honesty bar, beach towels if you fancy a trip to the coast,tea/coffee available all day, vast array of guide books and magazines, free WiFi,..........the list goes on and on. If you like a small, intimate, friendly place to rest your bones - this is for you.
We would DEFINITELY stay here again. Thanks especially to Bernie who was in charge while we were here at the start of our hoilday.

We arrived, 2 parents and 3 jaded children, early one morning having just flown through the night from London. Despite the early hour, Carol and her team could not have been more welcoming and helpful.

We were soon sorted, eating delicious french toast in one of the excellent local cafes. The hotel's rooms are wonderful - stylish and elegant. One particular feature I loved was that coffee, tea and other drinks are available all day (and night if needed). There is also a large selection of DVDs which worked well with tired and grumpy children.

The hotel is located close to the cable car. It's close enough to the city centre to feel connected and convenient but is also wonderfully tranquil. Two last points: the small pool is refreshing and the breakfasts are superb - we all voted them the best of our 3 week holiday (despite some excellent competition). I would recommend it very highly - a really lovely place to stay.

What more can we add to prior travelers' superlatives, other than to reiterate: Absolutely perfect!

What makes Derwent so special are not just extraordinary breakfasts by the swimming pool, or delicious tea time treats, or proximity to Table Mountain (visible from our bedroom window). What makes Derwent so special are the people who work at Derwent, and especially owners Carol and Jo.

Our week in Cape Town would not have been nearly so special without their excellent advice about places to visit (or not) in Cape Town, wine country and the Cape of Good Hope, and places to eat (including a great public market and supernal restaurants).

They made the Cape Town leg of our Africa adventure memorable and enjoyable.

My husband and I stayed at Derwent House over the Easter weekend so he could run the Two Ocean Marathon. We selected it after carefully reviewing Trip Advisor - the glowing reviews were spot on.
Carol, Jo and the staff were extremely helpful, nothing is too much trouble. On 2 mornings of our stay we needed breakfast early (normally 8:00am - 10:00am and we needed to be out the door by 8:00am), they happily obliged.
The rooms are lovely, nice and modern but comfortable. We stayed in room 1 which has a fabulous view of Table Mountain and a lovely balcony for an afternoon drink from the honesty bar (which is really reasonably priced and a brilliant idea!). While we were there it rained for a large portion of the long weekend, but the first day we arrived it was boiling hot and the pool is a beautiful set up for a warm day to relax.
If we're ever lucky enough to return to Cape Town, we will definitely be staying at Derwent House.
Thanks Carol and Jo - good luck in the marathon!

Room Tip: They all seemed lovely but room 1 has a nice large balcony overlooking Table Mountain.

Thoroughly enjoyed our two nights at the Derwent House. Nice location with short walk to Kloof and Long street bars and restaurants and even to Greenmarket Square for some shopping. Rooms very nice as are pool and hot tub. Great breakfast in the morning! Very helpful with arranging tours, helping with car hires, and all the other things travelers may need help with while in town.

This was probably the coziest and best little hotel we have ever stayed at. Coming to this lounge of peace was sooooo great after hours in the car, or back from shopping on Longstreet. If Cape Town again, this is definitely where we will be staying! Thanks to Carol, Jo and all the others.
