This was my first visit to this hotel. My husband stayed last year on his own but we went as a couple this year. He said it was lovely but hadn't really elaborated. This hotel is just simply amazing. Situated just literally outside the centre of Cape town with spectacular views of Table mountain. Chris the manager could not do enough to make sure your stay was near to perfect. Nothing was a problem. He sorted out our car hire, transfers, cycle stuff for my husbands bike race in the Argus etc. We met the owners Jo and Carol who were lovely too. The thing that I loved about this place was how many times does the owner come and greet you to make sure you're okay?? Enjoying it?? etc. Fab. We had a larger room with lounge/kitchenette area. Superb. Immaculately clean, amazing decor and just simply wow. I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone. We went alone without our children. I'm not sure this luxurious experience would be as amazing wtih the kids, but its so relaxing there I'm sure it would be. The pool area, although small was lovely to relax. If in Cape town then stay here. You will certainly not be disappointed.

I have never felt motivated to write a review before, but after our stay at Derwent House I feel compelled to share our experience.

We stayed 4 nights in February 2011 and we couldn't have had a better welcome to our holiday in Cape Town. Carol and her team's hospitality was exceptional. We had planned a couple of excursions (usual touristy stuff) during our trip but having discussed our plans with Chris and/or Carol they gave us tips that made the excusions 100% better than planned up to the point of sending us to the best beach on a windy day!

I think Carol must have a deal with all the top restuarants in CT as whenever she booked, we had a brilliant table - thank you so much.

The breakfast was to die for - especially the 'wet muesli'

Top, top place!!

Just returned from a 5 night stay (1 night in apt, 4 nights in hotel) and I can't say enough good things about the service and accommodation that Jo and her team provided.

I knew that things were off to a good start when I was greeted on a first name basis on arrival at the hotel. Registration was swift and efficient and I was soon enjoying afternoon tea and cake (complimentary) on the terrace overlooking the pool. The hotel provides access to a well stocked kitchen, including an honesty bar that has an excellent selection of local wines. Breakfast is amazing with a wide choice of both hot and cold food available.

Jo and the staff truly made us feel at home during the five days that we stayed with them. We will definitely return if we are ever lucky enough to be in Cape Town again.

this was our 3rd stat at derwent house and it just keeps getting better and better. All the other reviews have said it before - "the decor, the pool, the honesty bar, the breakfast etc...."
But what really sets this place apart is the level of service offered by the professional and commited staff team.
They are friendly and approachable and really go the extra mile to help you and always have a smile.
BRILLIANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife and 10 year old daughter stayed at Derwent for a week. Their service could be described as homely with a taste of elegance. We arrived in Cape Town early in the morning. Yet, when we arrived to check in, it was as if they were expecting and anticipating our arrival. They were finishing the preparation of our room. So, while we waited they provided us with a full complimentary breakfast.
Throughout our stay the managers and staff could not do enough for us. They were only too happy to offer advice for dining, tours, getting around and sight seeing. The included breakfast each morning became a motivating reason to get up and get going. Some evenings when we felt like eating in, the evening staff would happily arrange for local restaurants to deliver food to us. Their pool and deck area was comfortable and felt quite private despite the closeness of other properties.
The apartment was nicely decorated and felt quite homely. Air conditioning helped keep it comfortable during the hot summer days. The view from our bedroom window had a stunning view of Table Mountain which just added to the whole experience.
A taxi to the Waterfront costs about ZAR50, and about ZAR30 to Table Mountain Cableway which made it easy to get around. Dining was only about 4 minutes walk away.
All in all, Derwent House is an exceptional place to stay and I'm sure you will not be disappointed. Thank you Jo, Carol and all the staff and Derwent.

This is a wonderful hotel is a superb location. We fell in love with it before we even entered the front door. It was styled in a way that made us want to move in permanently. The front of house staff (Chris for the most part) was amazingly attentive and helpful with recommendations and assistance in bookings.

We had booked on of the Fabulous rooms, as these were a better fit for our budget. Our room (no 5) was small (reflected by the room rate so we are not complaining) but it did lead straight out onto the pool area which we found a bonus. It is a regret that we didn't push for the Beautiful room selection. That said the room was the least important part of the overall experience.

This hotel seems to attract incredibly friendly guests and everyone was sociable and entertaining. This is, no doubt, a reflection of the owners Carol and Jo, who made a special point of greeting everyone.

We really enjoyed the local area and the quality of the restaurants, all within walking distance, were exceptional and abundant.

From the pool area guest are able to see if the cable car to Table Mountain is operating (it was shut for most of the time we were there due to high wind). The pool area is tranquil but sadly the sun sets behind the hotel at around 5pm (in February at least) which means any pool time needs to be completed by then. Not a problem and we were able to plan our activities so this did not affect us.

I would encourage anyone I know to book Derwent House.
