I am a frequent traveler to Cape Town and usually stay at the Protea Hotel Victoria Junction. This time though my husband and I decided to give Southern Sun Waterfront a try. Unfortunately it was a disappointing experience overall. Check in took a long time and the lady checking us in was rather disorganised. Our room wasn't ready as it was 11am, so we went to check our bags in with the concierge. we were standing behind a man who had his back to us at the concierge desk for about 5 min (assumed he was a guest and we were in the queue), only to find out that he actually worked at the hotel and was having a fat chat with the guy behind the desk while we were waiting to be helped. Apon returning to the hotel at 3pm we were given room keys for our room that we were told was now ready. We arrived at our room to find housekeeping busy cleaning. Annoyed, we had to go back down to reception and be reallocated to another room which we were then promised would be ready. We decided to have an afternoon sleep but an hour later a lady opened our door and asked to come in. We said no but she stood there for a minute and eventually left. She had brought a letter and bottle of wine which we assumed was an apology from the hotel for the room mishap, but it was addressed to someone else entirely thanking them for being a Gold club member. This did nothing to improve perceptions of the hotel's level of organisation. On Monday morning we were woken at 8am by loud banging - they are apparently upgrading the rooms but it goes without saying that they should refrain from excessive noise until a decent time - most people there are on holiday after all. We decided to leave and get away from the noise, but when returning at 3pm our room had not been serviced yet! I had wanted to do some work but had to call housekeeping and then leave the room again so that they could service it. Overall I was not impressed and found the hotel to be disorganised.

In terms of the room, i know they are upgrading but I really found the rooms nothing to write home about - very small, no loose sheet, just a duvet, our toilet ran, there is no suitcase stand or place to put your bags and no shelves to unpack your clothes, only hanging space in a small cupboard.

The Breakfast staff were professional and helpful and the breakfast spread was good. We did alert the manager to our concerns and he said we must let him know when we next come so that he can make a note to make it extra special for us. Based on my experience though, I'd far rather stay at Protea Victoria Junction where the rooms are modern and spa

Dear Valued Guest

At the outset, I would like to sincerely apologize for what was no doubt a totally unacceptable stay with us.

All the issues that you highlighted will be thoroughly investigated and discussed with all the relevant departments concerned so as to ensure that these shortcomings are minimized going forward.

I can assure you that we place considerable effort on training as we strive to deliver continued service excellence, however, in your case we clearly fell short.

We would really like to be given the opportunity to demonstrate to you that your experience was the exception rather than the rule.

To this end , please contact me direct when planning your next trip to Cape Town

Once again, thank for your detailed report and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Southern Sun Waterfront in the not too distant future.

Warm regards

Stayed here a few nights - really convenient location to stay in the center of the city if you want to explore the surroundings at your own leisure. I was bummed that wifi was available only in slabs of an hour at some pretty steep price and even that was very unreliable. The service was fairly standard and the rooms were a tad small but well fitted. They had car parking underground but again, they insisted that we pay parking fees each night instead of pay upfront or while checking out. Overall, decent place to explore the city from

I stayed for 2 nights and found the rooms very comfortable, very clean and a good size. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. It was in a good location near the Waterfront. Highly recommend this hotel

We stayed at the Southern Sun for 2 nights. The hotel is located very close to the waterfront. The rooms are ok, could have been a bit spacious. They do not have a minibar which was disappointing.

Breakfast had a good spread. The hotel seemed to be quite crowded with a number of big groups staying. They also have a shuttle to the waterfront which is quite convenient.
