“What A Find!!!”
Reviewed October 16, 2011

Well, after staying at just about every lodge in the area over the last few years, I'm very happy to have discovered this little gem of a lodge. Very very nice and cosy, and clean and friendly. It's central and yet surprisingly quiet in its little cul-de-sac.
I'm a regular visitor to Cape Town and, at long last, I've found MY place to stay!!

We stayed here for 2 nights in the Yellow room (#7)

The overall experience was slightly below average. We had booked for 2 separate times: once for 2 nights and then again after a few days, for another 5 nights. During the second phase though, we changed the hotel to David's place which we liked much better (separate review)

Cons:
The room was mushy. The carpet was damp. Not very clean. Heating was grossly inadequate & it was really cold. (it was september. Wonder what would be the case in the peak winter).

Pros:
Very nice quiet location. Though it doesn't have secure parking, the street on which it is located is at a dead-end and there was ample of parking.
It has a common kitchen outside which is reasonably well equipped. Has a very informal atmosphere.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my wife and 1 year old son. We did not take the breakfast option, but were upgraded to the B&B rooms because of a winter special they were having. We payed R400 a night and got tremendous value. The room itself was huge and had many helpful facilities (toaster, fridge, dishes, safe...). They also supplied us with a cot for our son. The staff were also extremely helpful and fun to chat with. They are on a side street with plenty of parking available and are in walking distance of many things (took us around 10 minutes to walk to the water front and less then 10 minutes to drive to table mountain).
If you stay here, be sure to check out the Italian restaurant (Mario's) on the corner.

This is the best place you can find to stay in Cape Town. People are really friendly. We stayed in the self-catering house, the kitchen and lounge are clean. Our room 9 was lovely, african style ! And the price was also very good. We loved being there and recommand it !!

The House on the Hill is a reasonably priced, pleasant B&B (it also has self-catering rooms). The service was friendly, helpful and thorough. My room was brightly coloured with a TV, fridge, kettle, hair dryer, etc. And while the view wasn't great, you could open the window and get some fresh Cape Town air.

One of the best things about the House on the Hill is its location. It's a 10 minute walk to the V&A Waterfront and 20 minute walk to down town. A very brief walk to Main takes you to bars, restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets, post office, pharmacy... everything you needed. I used them all.

Also, the staff will also help arrange a variety of tours and will advise as to which are the best ones to take. I went on two recommended tours and they were both excellent.
And as a final thought, they have the best, biggest croissants I've ever had. They come fresh every morning from a bakery/coffee shop just down the street and around the corner.

We were four families. Stayed in the Self Catering Accommodation. Rooms found big enough to accommodate a family of 2 + 2. Best offer budget accommodation. Most of the attractions are easility accessible. Close to V&A Waterfront. Nice staffs. We enjoyed the stay. The Bed & Breakfast accommodation is also good. Three adults of our group stayed in Room No 5. They were also found it comfortable. Recommended for families looking for budget self catering or B&B accommodation. - Baiju & Family, Gaborone
