“Good apartment & great location”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

I stayed here with friends in January 2014 for a long weekend. The apartment was very smart. The traffic was a little noisy but we were busy sightseeing so were not in the apartment much. It was close to the V&A waterfront (we walked there in the day and got a taxi back when it was dark). The reception staff were friendly and helped us with maps of the city. We had a good rate for the apartment so overall a good stay for a weekend break.

Staff were always keen to help. But they would be let down by others.
Cleaning staff did not always do a thorough clean missing bathroom and bed making.
Drivers would quote them one price and then charge a great deal more.
Room was spacious and although a little tired with maintenance required was adequate.

Dear A Hampson

Thank you for the review. We apologise that there was a slight operational glitch with the housekeeping. Regarding the fee for transportation unfortunately you were quoted the base amount instead of the full amount for the number of people travelling with you. We will ensure that the staff involved are well briefed about your review and we hope you will give us another opportunity to prove our commitment to service excellence.

We hope to see you again in the near future.

Best regards

I would have given a 4 star rating because the apartment is spacious, the equipment level is great, location is good (cleanliness could improve though).

BUT...

They charged me for 3 nights instead of 2. I called and talked to 2 different persons, they seemed to be helpful promising the matter will be sorted out but nothing happened, they never called me back despite they promised. I wrote them 2 emails, received no correspondence whatsoever.

Now, a dispute case is on against them.

BE WARY!

Room Tip: The 2 bedroom apartment is great size, 2 bathrooms spacious kitchen/dining/living room area.

We rented the three bedroom penthouse suite. It was amazing and very comfortable. There was a nice supermarket two blocks away. The suite also included a washer and dryer which was welcome in the middle of our stay. If the room had been available for more nights, we would have stayed there for our entire trip to Cape Town.

Very nicely presented large studio room with the bedroom area partitioned off which was nice. Well equipped room, nice furnishings, ideal for long stays with secure underground parking. Good air con but did not seem to reach the sleeping area due to the partition. Very friendly and helpful reception staff. Not easy to find when first arriving from airport. We thought the room had a balcony but what we were given was not what we would call a balcony, the shutter/blinds did not open completely nor was there seating (or room for it), seemed more like an area to dry clothing or for smokers. Think maybe the larger apartments had proper balconies. Our room over looked a very busy section of road which was noisy from early until late but did not cause us any discomfort. The two busy roads were a challenge to cross when walking to/from the V&A Waterfront (only 15 mins easy stroll away). There are few pedestrians around and the traffic light sequence reflected this. The location of the apartments is fine for strolling around in the day or catching the tour bus from outside the Convention Centre (5 mins walk away). In the evening however the area becomes very remote, guests may feel more comfortable to walk out to dinner but taxi back after dark. We were approached by beggars but nothing to cause a problem, just like any city. These apartments are ideal for guests that prefer more space and the option of self catering. We did not use the pool but it was very small, probably fine for young children but not big enough to actually swim in. Our studio was good value and suited us just fine.

Room Tip: Maybe a high floor room would not be as noisy.

Apartments are nice but careful , they need to fix the broken things (trash bin in kitchen cupboard and his door of #215 for ex.) and maintain.
Towels are sometimes old and stained , need to be sorted out and new ones bought !

Room Tip: all seem to have traffic noise

We stayed for 14 nights in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom. De Waterkant is a great location, close to V&A waterfront and the CBD. Spaciousness of the apartment is perfect for longer stays, comes well equipped with kitchen amenities. The bed was really comfortable which surprised me for a holiday rental, the showers are large and powerful. I had the ensuite with bath tub which was pretty good. Some of the hard ware is wearing slightly but these are privately owned apartment holiday rentals so I expect the rooms vary depending on the owner. Daily housekeeping was good, except on sunday there is none. We had fresh bed linen and towels everyday. The underground parking is very safe and easy to use with elevators direct to your floor. Downsides are: the noise from the road with the balcony doors or windows open. This is to be expected in a city though. The internet is 500mb per voucher which you need to constantly input and receive from reception. ( This is standard from what I have experienced in South Africa ) A bit of a pain. The AC in the living room is built in and works perfectly except it doesn't really reach into the bed rooms and can be hot. The DVD player was pretty old and the surround sound speakers were not very good quality / old. Lots of TV stations and once had an issue the staff immediately fixed it. The staff are very kind and helpful, Warren on reception was so delightful and housekeeping always did their job well and they always responded to my requests when I left notes for them during the day. I never used the pool so I have no comment. A nice stay here, felt more like home than a rental.

Room Tip: I would imagine the Waterfront view is better than the city view.
