“A gem at the foot of Table Mountain”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

We booked this place after all the positive reviews on tripadvisor. I can honestly say, they are not exaggerated. I have travelled extensively, and found this to be a very charming place with a luxurious room. Our room was comfortable, a good size, with a beautiful balcony where we had a view of the city, the water, and if we looked around, we could see Table Mountain behind us.
What makes this place even more special is the personalized service. They really want you to enjoy your stay and holidays, and will do everything you need. They booked a car for us, tickets for Table Mountain. Stewart spent time with us to go over potential itineraries in the time that we had, even after we left his place.
We felt extremely looked after, but not in an intrusive way. The breakfast was delicious, with everything very fresh, and very high quality ingredients.
The pool is not heated unless you ask for it. We didn't as we felt bad imposing just for us, seemed a waste of energy.
Would happily recommend this place to anyone visiting Cape Town. The location is in a safe suburb, and you can park on the street without a problem.

We have travelled extensively for 10 years, over 15 countries and never have we felt so welcomed, cared for, and at home. Our first night arriving was after dark and we were a bit late [the GPS did not work and could not get the phone to call out either]. We pulled onto the street and I got out to find a place with someone home that I might ask directions. From a porch, I heard "Carolyn, is that you - we've been worried". Stewart was immeediatly at the gate, helping us in and offering a cup of tea. The staff is beyond excellent, they anticipate needs and offer ideas before you know you have them! They make on-line reservations for activities, dining reservations, call cabs, order pizza in if you like - suggest you can pick things up at the deli on the corner and they will heat them up if you are too tired to go out after a big day of sight seeing. We were there in winter and were greeted with a warm fireplace in the sitting room every evening plus tea, coffee, cookies and what seemed like a genuine interest in a recount of our day [which they must hear over and over!]. On one lovely late afternoon, we arrived and were offered tea on our balcony to rest before dinner-what a treat. They also have an 'honor system' cupboard of cold drinks, spirits, and several wines they recommend. Breakfast is outstanding - a complete cold buffet from A to Z with a few speical South African offerings each day plus a hot breakfast made to order. They know the Cape and are full of helpful info. You get not only a delightful room & outstanding food, but a 'home away from home' with royal treatment, plus the services of a travel agency if you desire. We were not aware there would be so many narrow, mountain roads to get to some of the sights of interest and Stewart was great at planning the road maps to keep us always on the inside lanes next to the mountain side or know when to take a cab. They really do listen to your interests and needs and know how to help. They responded to many emails in advance of our trip which was a big plus when traveling to a new country for the first time. Note: There were singles, couples, families with young children, groups of friends, parents with older children all there at the same time and the staff somehow make it all work so everyone gets along and gets great service - it was amazing.

Room Tip: We had just come from two weeks in the "bush" and the street noise took some getting used...

Acorn House is a delightful upmarket bed-and-breakfast establishment, centrally situated in Oranjezicht, making restaurants, attractions and roads easily accessible. The friendly staff and owners welcome one warmly with sherry, tea or coffee and a roaring fire in cold weather. They go beyond the call of duty to make one's stay a memorable one.
The rooms are beautifully furnished, each one offering a unique view of either Table Mountain or Table Bay. Breakfast is a culinary delight: the beautifully displayed cold buffet varies daily, as does the menu for the hot food - not to be missed.
I will certainly recommend Acorn House to all travellers.

This B&B is an excellent choice for people visiting Cape Town, very comfortable, clean and welcoming. Well organised and friendly . Location is excellent in a quiet and safe neighborhood on the slopes of Table Mountain. Plenty restaurants near by and the historic city center is an easy walk as is the tour bus stop. Better value than the expensive hotels in the waterfront . Highly recommend to those who prefer the small hotel style of accommodation .

We stayed for a few days before catching the Rovos Rail. The welcome was exceptional and our room had the most wonderful views of Cape Town. When tired of the excitement we sat on our balcony, with a wonderful bottle of wine purchased from the host. Seeing the sun set over the harbour.

Breakfast was wonderful - the hosts also organised cars and trips for us.

One word - wonderful

I was going to be in Cape Town for four nights with a girlfriend and I was a little nervous but didn't want to stay at a major chain hotel. We felt very welcomed when we rang and when we arrived. The house and the rooms are delightful, very clean, secure and beautifully appointed. A taxi was ordered for us when we needed with a reputable company. Excellent recommendations were made about restaurants and other things we wanted to do.
Every time I thought I needed something in the room I looked around and it was there already.i found Acorn House hard to fault and am very grateful for a wonderful impression for our stay in Cape Town.
