We stayed at the North Wharf for 3 nights on our arrival in Cape Town, for a further 2 nights on our return from Kruger National Park and again for our last night before returning home to the UK.

What a fantastic hotel ! We arrived the first time fresh off the flight from UK at 8.00am to store our luggage only to find that our room was already ready for us (no extra charge). The staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to help you with even the smallest problem.

Breakfast is excellent as is the restaurant in the evenings. This hotel provides a superb base whilst in Cape Town, being only a matter of minutes away from both the V&A Waterfront and the CBD.

Having space to relax in is very important to us and the sheer size of the 1 bedroom apartments is most impressive, add to this a full kitchen with dishwasher and washer/dryer what more could you ask for.

  • Liked — The size of the rooms and the great staff
  • Disliked — Nothing

I had the oppotunity of spending a night at the PH North Wharf during September 2008 and as a Capetonian I impressed...
I am a wheelchair user and wasn't to sure what to expect. I was expecting the worst but was super impressed with the ease of access, all the way from the underground car park garage, to the foyer and up to the room.
I stayed in Room 109, why they call it a room I'm not sure...
It's a 1 bedroomed apartment, with it's own fully equipped kitchen (fridge, oven, stove top, microwave, dishwasher, washer/tumbel dryer and all the necessary pots and pans you might need), bathroom with roll in shower (shower has a height adjustable hand held shower head and a fold down shower bench) with the much needed grab rails in the shower and by the toilet. Dining area and lounge. Apartment 109 had 2 tv's in it (1 in the lounge & 1 in the bedroom), as well as a DVD player, laptop work area.
The only problem which as a wheelchair user you might encounter is the kitchen space. The entrance into the kitchen is a bit narrow and there's no space to turn around, so you go in forwards and you have to reverse out.
The bedroom has enough space for one to enter the bed from either side. I did find that the bed was a bit high but I managed fine and slept well.
Room service was quick and the food was good!
Staff friendly and willing to help.

  • Liked — Well situated in the city centre.

We stayed at North Wharf as the second stop in our honeymoon booked through Virgin (Kruger, Cape Town, Mauritius). We stayed for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. We didn't spend vast amounts of time at the hotel as we had so much to do, but the time spent there was excellent!
The hotel is very clean and our huge room (apartment style) offered a very large lounge/dining room area, a lovely bathroom (if you like power showers you are in here!) and a very comfortable bed, which I am sure was larger than our king at home.
The rooms are very well equipped should you wish to cook yourself anything. They also had washing machine/dryer, ironing board etc-essential when your clothes have been screwed up in a suitcase for 5 days already!
Breakfast was excellent, with enormous choice-full cooked, croissants, fruit, cereals, omelettes, meats-loads to choose from.
The hotel is an excellent base as a taxi to the V&A waterfront took approx 4 mintutes and cost 40 rand (about £3).
Should anyone else need this tip, as a new wife/'old' bride I needed my acrylic nails removing and wondered where on earth I would find a salon to do it!!
The Ikon/Icon building just to the rear of this hotel does it-what a find!!!!
This is a superb hotel and only wish we could have used the pool but as it was the end of Aug, it was pretty chilly to be doing that. Would definately return to this hotel if we do Cape Town again!

Very comfortable home from home. Suites had everything to make it a very pleasant stay. Furnishings are bright and new. Kitchen was well equipped, although we ate out as there are endless delightful possibilities for dining out in Cape Town. Staff are extremely helpful.

This was my third stay with the North Wharf.

It is one of the best values in Cape Town. Your room is like a condo apartment with full facilities.

Breakfast is in true African style - lots of good quality food.

The staff is wonderful and very considerate.

Highly recommend this property.

This is a new hotel, 10 mins walk from the Waterfront and the town centre. Its a typical suite hotel so the rooms are large (nicely furnished) with sitting and dining areas and kitchen facilities. The breakfasts are great, as is the room service. The staff on the desk were really helpful. There is no shuttle to major sites as with the larger (more expensive) hotels but they will arrange transport for you at reasonable rates. Really the only reason this is a 4 is that the hotel is more aimed at longer stay residents from the nearby convention centre, so it does tend to lack any "vibe" in the evening. That being said as a quiet, well located, hotel which is not expensive, and has facilities to be a home away from home this is hard to beat.

Security is discrete but there, you are advised not to walk to locations after dark - but that goes for many cities.

ps there is a great delicatessan around the corner if you do want to self cater.
