We had learned through Trip Advisor that Mzansi was #1 in all of Cape Town...so had to try it.

We had some worries about it being in a sketchy area, but carefully read some of the reviews saying it is safe and not to worry. We agree...we felt very safe and learned that the restaurant is on the first block of the first Street off the highway and the is a source of pride in the neighborhood. We actually felt safer at night there than outside several other restaurants we tried in central Cape Town.

The restaurant is set up as family style with 3 large tables where you can easily meet and chat with the other guests. The food was fantastic....home cooked African dishes in a buffet. Oh yes...all you can eat. The price was incredibly reasonable (less than US$20 per person, including drinks). A local group played " African jazz" with a very interesting combination of percussion instruments and a sax.

Mama took some time to share her story with everyone. It's maybe a bit long, but represents a significant achievement and is very worth hearing.

An amazing evening you don't want to miss.

We had the best time at Mzansi‘s!
The food is cooked with love and very delicious, the band is just amazing and Mamma tells you the story of her family and how the restaurant became what it is today; she makes you feel welcome, at home and touches your heart.
It was a beautiful experience and we felt very safe at all times; no reason to worry even though people might tell you so.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us and made this great evening possible.

If you are in for a true authentic SA family dining experience, you would not want to miss Mzansi. This is not a business but an opened home which welcomes everyone. The food is homemade traditional SA dishes, served in a buffet style. With the heart of an ocean and endless love, 'Mama' is one of the most incredible persons to meet. Her captivating personal story will mesmerize you. We never felt unsafe or insecure in the township, and we felt like we were in our own neighborhood. Mzansi is where people of all nations come together as one and share a meal and good time together. <3

This is more than a restaurant, it is an experience never to be forgotten. We were welcomed with open arms by Nomonde and her family and made to feel at home. Before our meal we wandered into the back room and chatted with a local artist who was demonstrating the technique of sand painting. The buffet style dinner offered an amazing variety of delicious food. We enjoyed our meal while listening to a quartet of talented musician from the township playing marimbas, a sax and drums. After a leisurely meal Nomonde told us an inspiring story of her life and how her restaurant came to be.
We left Mzansi with full stomachs, grins ear to ear and warm feelings of a very special evening. I highly recommend.
